Phil Mickelson Makes Best of His $200 Million LIV Golf Deal, After Liking an Insanely Hilarious PGA Tour Meme

Since its initiation, LIV Golf’s objective has been to revolutionalize the sport of golf. The rules and structure followed by the Saudi-funded Tour have previously been denounced by its biggest competitor, the PGA Tour. However, the American Tour has been imitating its nemesis recently, replicating the lucrative Tour’s controversial policies. LIV’s biggest star, Phil Mickelson, didn’t shy away from trolling his former Tour by liking a Tweet which took a jibe at the PGA Tour.

Mickelson has been the most vocal supporter of LIV Golf. After signing a $200 million contract with the Saudi-funded Tour, he has defended his new Tour against critics. However, while supporting the lucrative Tour, Lefty has also displayed his dismay with the PGA Tour in the past.

Though he wasn’t happy with the internal structure at the 92-year-old Tour, following his move to LIV Golf, the PGA Tour has made several alterations in their Tour which may have made Phil cheerful. Nonetheless, now part of the breakaway Tour, Mickelson took another shot at his former Tour with the recent activity on Twitter.

Known as the ‘elevated events‘, 17 PGA Tour tournaments will have high prize money, and every golfer who finished in the Top 20 in the Player Impact Program the previous year is required to play in at least 12 of them. However, last week, PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, announced a revamp of its elevated events from next season onwards.

The change will see a reduction in the size of the field with only 70-78 participants and a designated $16 million purse. Moreover, similar to LIV Golf, the elevated PGA Tour events won’t have any 36-hole cut rule. While the American Tour had questioned the competitive quality of the lucrative Tour for its no-cut policy, they soon will follow what they once criticized.

Many including the LIV Golf’s main Twitter handle questioned the PGA Tour’s revamp, by welcoming them to the future of golf. However, the drama only grew out of proportion when LIV’s biggest star joined the trollers. Former PGA Tour player and co-host of the podcast ‘F***THEPOPULATION’, John Peterson posted a meme of Mr. Bean with a PGA Tour logo copying the exam paper of the person sitting next to him, who happens to have a LIV Golf logo.

While the photo depicted the ongoing events in the golf world, Phil Mickelson agreed with his former colleague. He liked the picture garnering more attention to the Tweet. Though many may criticize Lefty for trolling the American Tour, the golf world knows that Mickelson is unfazed by everyone around him.
