It is very common for two golfers to disagree on something, and matters can get worse when they are from opposite leagues. The recent exchange between Scottie Scheffler and Phil Mickelson is a prime example. The drama unfolded just before the Champions Dinner, a revered tradition at the Masters where former green jacket holders gather to celebrate the legacy of the tournament. This year, the dinner was ‘Served in Honor of Mr. Scottie Scheffler,’ with the reigning champion hand-picking the menu, but what happened?

Well, Mickelson’s comments about Scheffler’s dominance in the OWGR rankings, and his suggestion that Joaquín Niemann is the top player in the world, sparked a heated debate. He even took a swipe at Scheffler’s chances of winning before the 2025 Ryder Cup, saying he didn’t think it would happen. “Here’s a hot take Does Scottie win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don’t think so“, he had tweeted. However, when called, Mickelson quickly backtracked, saying he was just ‘having a little fun.’

Well, while Scheffler hasn’t directly addressed Phil Mickelson’s comments, his Ryder Cup take might be right. The Ryder Cup is an intense experience, as Scheffler shared in 2023, recalling his debut in 2021, where he felt an unprecedented level of pressure. “I would say that the Ryder Cup is the most pressure that I’ve ever felt as a golfer,” he had said. Scheffler’s Ryder Cup scores showcase his experience and skill on the biggest stage. In the 2021 Ryder Cup, he excelled with a 2-0-1 record, including a notable win against world No. 1 Jon Rahm in the Sunday singles match. However, in the 2023 Ryder Cup, Scheffler’s performance was more subdued, going 0-2-2, with a tie against Rahm in the Sunday singles match.

Despite the drama, Scheffler seemed to take it all in stride, and the two golfers were spotted together at the Champions Dinner, with Mickelson even posing for a photo behind Scheffler. Now, it looks like not only Scheffler but Mickelson has also put the feud past them.

It seems like the two golfers were able to put their recent differences aside, as Scottie Scheffler and Phil Mickelson were seen together, chatting on the range during the first round of the Masters. What did they talk about? Was it a friendly chat? Well, nothing as such has been disclosed yet. But one thing is certain: with their groups having close tee times on the first two rounds, with Mickelson’s group teeing off at 9:58 a.m./1:12 p.m. and Scheffler’s group at 10:15 a.m./1:23 p.m., we may get to see more of their interactions throughout the tournament.

Scottie Scheffler’s performance in the 2025 season so far

Compared to a fabulous 2024, Scottie Scheffler’s recent performances have been a mixed bag, with some impressive finishes on the PGA Tour, but also some struggles. He’s shown his skills in various courses, from Pebble Beach to TPC Sawgrass, but his inconsistency has been a concern. His T9 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was a bright spot, but his T25 finish at the WM Phoenix Open and other lackluster performances have raised questions about his form.

But what’s been even more challenging for Scheffler is the unusual circumstances that affected his start to the season. A Christmas Day mishap while making ravioli resulted in a puncture wound to his right hand from a broken wine glass stem, requiring surgery to remove glass fragments. This forced him to miss the first few tournaments of the PGA Tour season, and he made his return at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Despite this setback, Scheffler has been trying to get back to his best, but it’s clear that he’s still finding his footing. However, Scheffler has also managed to get a T2 finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and T3 at the Genesis Invitational, showing slight glimmers of hope moving into the Green Jacket event.

Phil Mickelson’s doubts about Scheffler’s ability to win the 2026 Ryder Cup may be worth considering, given his inconsistent play and the challenges he’s faced this season. Can Scheffler overcome his struggles and prove Mickelson wrong, or will his season continue to be marked by ups and downs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
