Phil Mickelson’s Honest Confession About Catching Up With Tiger Woods Lands Him in a Pickle With Former PGA Tour Pro

Phil Mickelson has yet another reason to make the news! While many debates, opinions, and statements have been orbiting the Mickelson-Chamblee feud, other participants haven’t shied away from entering the arena. Although the initial phase did focus on LIV Golf, the online battle slowly turned into a hatchet job.

Similarly, this time around was no different. Amidst the trade-off of dialogues, Mickelson revealed his possible admission to an exclusive club of golfers, where currently only Tiger Woods sits! However, that admission too came with the kick of a former PGA Tour pro possibly dredging up the past.

The verbal exchange of jarring comments between Phil Mickelson and Eamon Lynch paved the way for the divulgence of information. This revelation implied that the 52-year-old would soon be bumping into Tiger Woods in that billionaire club. Simply put, Phil Mickelson taunted about still being addicted to gambling. The best response Lefty could come up with was, “Haven’t gambled in years. Almost a billionaire now. Thanks for asking.”

Indicating that the professional golfer has stayed away from his Achilles’ heel. This has allowed the LIV golfer to accumulate a net worth of almost a billion dollars. Earlier, Mickelson reportedly signed a $200 million deal when he switched leagues, which has certainly also aided the financial jump. As per his claim, as long as things go well, it shouldn’t be long before Lefty joins Woods in the elite group of billionaire golfers!

However, Lefty’s billionaire confession also found him in trouble with a former PGA Tour pro, Colt Knost. As it turns out, it seems like the 6-time major winner possibly has some unpaid dues with the PGA Tour veteran. And Knost took his smug boast as the perfect opportunity to try and collect on it. “Then can I have my 10k back?” he hilariously asked on Mickelson’s post calling him out. As for its plausibility, it certainly is possible; after all, Mickelson himself has addressed his gambling problems in the past.

Moreover, as per the biography written by Shipunck, Mickelson allegedly separated from his former caddie, Jim Mackay, when he couldn’t pay him back the massive amount. On top of that, between 2010 and 2014, the 2021 PGA Champion was said to have gambled more than $40 million in losses. It is a possibility that Knost might be referring to that period. But what is certain is that the former PGA Tour pro is asking for money from one of the wealthiest golfers in the world.

His past, of course, gives rise to the big question of whether Lefty really has left his gambling antics behind. And as per the golf pro’s tweet that followed moments after his billionaire claim, perhaps he hasn’t completely done so.

Mickelson adds a sub-clause to his gambling claims

After all these statements were professed by the 2021 PGA Championship winner, a new comment joined the conversation. An individual called out the golfer, saying that Mickelson’s remark implies that he doesn’t participate in the money play during casual or practice rounds, which isn’t possible. And if he does, then “that is gambling”.

To this, the LIV golfer added that there was an asterisk to his no-gambling claims. He stated, “There is an * then. We cap it at 1k. I would argue that’s creating competition. But certainly you could argue otherwise.” Although the golfer designated the term “competition” and not “gambling” for the said actions, for many it still falls under the umbrella term of bets.
