Debuting in the first event held in Centurion Club in London, Mickelson has been a part of every LIV event held so far. However, he has only ever shot under-par once in those events. He addressed the crowd after yet another disappointing display on the first day’s play at the Boston event.

“I wouldn’t say I feel looser,” he replied when asked about his recent performances. “I’m actually struggling a little bit because I’m putting too much pressure on myself because I’ve been playing really well at home, I get out here and I’m playing tight, steering it.”

Mickelson further indicated that his game wasn’t at the same level as before and shared a specific solution for the same. “I’m just not playing the way I usually play, which is more free and fearless and letting it rip and swinging aggressive, and I’ve been making some tentative kind of steery hold-on swings, and that’s not how I’ve been playing well at home, and it costs me coming down the stretch with two 6s, I doubled 10, I didn’t birdie 8, I made a bogey on 8, which is a two-shot loss there,” Mickelson said.

“I’ve got to play a little bit looser. I’ve got to get back to that to get my best golf out.”

Phil Mickelson’s performances so far this season

2022 has been a frenzy for Mickelson so far. Since February, he has participated in two PGA events – the US Open and the Open Championship. He failed to make the cut in both events, finishing with scores of +11 and +5 respectively. His LIV performances haven’t been any different, having never reached the top 10 in standings.

Mickelson will continue to lead his team, Hy Flyers GC, in the International Golf Club at LIV’s fourth event this weekend.
