Happy news for the fans of the 6-time major winning champion Phil Mickelson! The golfer will be playing in the upcoming U.S. Open Championship in the Country Club in Massachusetts. The LIV Golf Invitational Series ended on June 11, Saturday. And a day later, Mickelson was spotted practicing for the third major of the season.

Todd Lewis, a reporter for Golf Channel, posted the picture of the golfer’s practice session at the Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. The U. S. Open begins on June 16.

Mickelson is confirmed to play in the major this week! 

Notably, the 122nd U. S. Open Championship would be Mickelson’s second tournament after taking a long break since February. He made his comeback at the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series in London.

 

The 51-year-old was the captain of the team HY FLYERS GC and finished with an overall score of 10-over par. Significantly, the PGA Tour suspended Mickelson from playing in any tournaments on the Tour or any other tours it sanctions. The other PGA sanctioned tours include the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Champions, PGA Tour Canada, and PGA Tour Latinoamerica.

However, since the Majors don’t come under the PGA Tour, he can play in the U. S. Open Championship and all other majors if he is eligible. Notably, Mickelson didn’t attend the Masters or the PGA Championship, even though he had committed to both. However, since he is practicing already, the golfer is to play the major this week.

It has been thirty years since Phil Mickelson started playing professional golf. In this period, he has won more than 50 championship titles worldwide, including 6 majors. Yet, he has never won the U. S. Open Championship.

The 51-year-old has won three Masters, two PGA Championships, and one Open Championship. Notably, he has finished second in the U. S. Open 6 times, which is a record. Mickelson lost his first chance to win the event in 1999 at Pinehurst. Payne Stewart won the major with a 1-shot lead. He fell short of claiming the title five more times, the last time at Merion Golf Club in 2013. Justin Rose won the event with a 2-shot lead against Lefty.
