In the actual prank – which Mickelson did upload on Instagram – he is seen picking up DeChambeau’s 8-iron and bending it over his knee. The latter is teeing up, while Mickelson tried to be as discreet as he could. “Hopefully there’s a lot of 8 irons for Bryson this week,” Mickelson wrote on Instagram later, exposing his prank himself.

Fans seemed to love the clip, calling the whole event ‘awesome’. Some fans were convinced that the 8-iron was indeed bent. “What’s funny is Phil won’t allow anybody to touch his clubs,” wrote another user. “He carried his own bag at Riviera and wouldn’t allow the caddie to touch them”.
Having said that, Mickelson tried to bend the club during the Rocket Mortgage Classic Pro-Am in 2021. It was also a challenge for the upcoming The Match, where Mickelson teamed up with Tom Brady and DeChambeau with Aaron Rodgers (which DeChambeau won). The younger golfer and Mickelson are easily two of the most popular players in golf, often turning to social media to share with their fans and for trash talk.
