He recently became the 31st golfer in the entire PGA Tour history to cross the $40 million mark in earnings. Yes, we are talking exactly about Xander Schauffele, who, with his stats of 57 top-10 finishes, including 7 victories, managed to occupy the 25th place on the career earnings list. However, the same doesn’t appear to be the case for the season’s PGA Tour Money List.

Based on his 2024 earnings, the golfer holds the sixth position with a total of $5,528,071. But if he manages to win the ongoing PGA Tour event, the Wells Fargo Championship, then the professional may very well endanger Wyndham Clark, not to mention the likes of Sahith Theegala and Ludvig Aberg. Even so, Scottie Scheffler, who is not playing at the signature event, seems out of reach!

Does Xander Schauffele pose a danger to Clark and Aberg?

Schauffele boasts a total of seven top-10 placements out of the 10 starts he made on Tour this season. Meanwhile, he finished at T18, T25, and T54 at the rest of the events: the RBC Heritage, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, respectively. As a result of his scintillating performance, he was thus able to garner a total of $5,528,071.

However, if Schauffele were to emerge victorious at Wells Fargo, he would receive ₹3,600,000 out of the total $20 million pool. This would, in turn, increase his total to a whopping $9,128,071, beating the likes of Ludvig Aberg and Sahith Theegala to grab the third spot. Meanwhile, Ludvig Aberg’s WD from the current PGA Tour event makes him ineligible to gain any dollar bills from the same, while Sahith Theegala (currently in 3rd place with $6,565,228) would be unable to beat the American Pro in money even if he were to finish T2 (totaling $8,725,228).

But then what about Wyndham Clark, who is in the second spot? Well, even if the 1-time major champ (who is currently at T58) were to finish last, at T69, he would receive a cut of $40,400, which would increase his tally to $9,151,409, keeping him ahead of Schauffele, but just in proximity for him to become a threat soon enough.

But, as all of this transpires, Scheffler finds himself in the top spot with a huge payout of $18,693,235, all thanks to his nine top-10 finishes from 10 starts. Even a T1 finish by the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open champ at the ongoing tournament, which he is leading, isn’t enough to scare the current world No. 1.

Schauffele leads the scorecard at the Wells Fargo Championship

After two days of play, the golfer managed to card an 11-under with scores of 64-67. During the same period, he shot a total of 11 birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle, the last of which came during the first round at the par-5 7th hole. Close on his tail is none other than Jason Day, with figures of 7-under owing to the 68-67 he was able to card on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

If Schauffele manages to win the event, this would put an end to his performance curse that has been plaguing him for a while now. He would, then, be able to rake in his 8th PGA Tour victory, the last of which came in at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, almost a year ago. Thus, his fans would surely want him to clinch another win and would have their fingers crossed till the final second of play!
