While he has had an astonishing season in 2023, the golfer’s eyes are all set on the title in the coming tournament. It was during the Press Conference at TPC Southwind that Scottie Scheffler sat down to tone down the curiosity of the reporters. Even though they started off by asking about his practice and aim for the event, it soon turned towards the hot topic in the headlines—Monahan!
One of the journalists asked the American Professional how he felt about the PGA Tour Commissioner returning to the management scene. Rather honestly, the PGA Tour pro replied, “Yeah, so I mean, I went to the player meeting yesterday, and I realized I hadn’t seen Jay in quite a bit of time. Yeah, it’s definitely good to have him back.”
He added that the Tour still had a long way to go, but it definitely seemed better with Monahan back in the picture. Apart from his own perspective, Scheffler also answered how others might have felt about the return of the officeholder. He quite earnestly answered that every player can try to reach out to Monahan whenever it is required. And even the commissioner tries to be available for the golfers at all times.
Scheffler also talked about the importance that the Policy Board member gives to the input his professionals put forth. His response was soon followed up by another reporter’s question about any doubt the golfer had with regard to Monahan’s comeback. The one-time Major Championship winner responded frankly that no one really knows what Jay Monahan has going on back at home.
He further added that the PGA Tour players are just glad to have him back in their support and surely wish that he continues for a longer period of time. Besides the fresh news of the comeback, Scheffler also touched upon the $3 billion merger and the role of everyone around.
Scheffler’s reticent answer on the $3 billion framework
While some of the golf icons have been upfront in sharing their views about the merger between the PGA Tour, PIF, and DP World Tour, most of the golf stars have generally taken a reticent approach. One such player has been the World No. 1.

During the press conference, as he opened up about his stance concerning Jay Monahan’s return, one of the journalists asked the professional star about his statement in which he mentioned that the Tour has a long way to go. The 2022 Masters Tournament winner commenced his take by stating how nobody is entirely sure what the framework means and whatever efforts are being put toward the same.
Elaborating on it further, Scheffler added, “The position where I am sitting now, it just seems like they’ve got a long way to go in that sense to where there’s still not really much to say.” Per the golfer, nothing was certain about the merger, its consequences, or what is cooking about it right now.
