Finishing 128th on the 2024 FedEx Cup Points list with 405 points, the 2017 RBC Heritage Open winner knew things would be difficult this year. As a result of his FedEx Cup Points list finish, Bryan Wesley is low on the priority order, ranked 32. But now, it’s getting frustrating for him.

So, what happened was that he made it to the Texas Children’s Houston Open scheduled from March 27–30 as an alternate. Being an alternate means he’d only be able to participate in the competition if players in a higher priority order than him withdrew. This is not the only hardship he faces in making a much-needed appearance.

He’s an 8th alternative in the field. Yup, 8th. This means a whopping 8 players need to withdraw from the tournament for him to have his chance. He also shared that for him to make a start, he needs his back to get better. He does have a history of shoulder injury. The golfer went under the knife in January 2019 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, but his back troubles seem to be new.

“8th alternate! Need my back to get better and have a landslide of W’s for me to have a chance of making another cut on tour! Come on!” professed Bryan on X, who was looking to participate in only his fourth PGA Tour event of the season.

He has featured in three PGA Tour events so far this year and made the cut in only one: the Farmers Insurance Open. Bryan finished a respectable T25 with a par score across four days of play. He had also played at the second Creator Classic ahead of the PLAYERS Championship, where he scored 6 over par across eight holes to finish T6.

The loaded field is one reason why the popular YouTube golfer was dropped.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Wesley Bryan overcome his injuries and low ranking to make a comeback on the PGA Tour?

The biggest surprise at the Memorial Park Golf Course would be the participation of Rory McIlroy. He is notably taking part for the first time since 2014 when he finished T7 with a score of 7 under par. The Northern Irish golfer has only taken part in signature events and the PLAYERS so far this season which is why his participation is a huge talking point.

Last season’s winner Stephan Jaeger is also going to be there. Tony Finau, Taylor Moore, Thomas Detry, Alejandro Tosti, and Scottie Scheffler are all participating in this year’s edition but World No.3 Xander Schauffele is not part of the field. Schauffele, who is currently taking part in the Valspar Championship in Florida will most likely be using the period as a way to rest and recover, as he has just returned from injury.

Wesley Bryan and his brother George Bryan IV are famous for their YouTube channel called Bryan Bros Golf. They are one of the top golf-based content creators in the world and boast around 543K subscribers. It will be a thrilling competition in Texas, no doubt, but will Wesley Bryan be making it to the competition at the Memorial Park Golf Course? It remains to be seen.
