The 2024 Genesis Invitational is playing an unexpected quartet. Starting from Tiger Woods’s shank to his withdrawal due to illness, to Jordan Spieth’s disqualification for signing an incorrect scorecard, your worst nightmares have already turned into reality in Riviera.

But like every action, will there be some consequences that these famous pros will have to undergo? Interestingly, the answer to this is yes. There will be a significant impact on their OWGR points following whatever went down yesterday. But what exactly will their karma be?

In continuation of Tiger Woods’s tough luck spell at the Genesis Invitational through the years, he will not receive any OWGR points this season, as well. Why, you may ask? After all, he did play the course on the first day and six holes on the second day.

Since he withdrew from the game before reaching a position to qualify for the highly sought-after world ranking points, he will not be eligible to receive them. A similar saga will repeat in the case of Jordan Spieth, who was disqualified for mistakingly signing for a 3 instead of the 4 he made on a par 3’s fourth hole. Interestingly enough, a statement issued later revealed that Spieth admittedly took “full responsibility” for his failure to reach the weekend.

Considering both Spieth and Woods will be awarded no points for their Riviera run, it is safe to say that there will be no upward movement in their world rankings. However, the fans can’t help but speculate about the potential outcomes if things had turned out differently. Thankfully, we have an answer.

It was projected that a win could lead Tiger Woods to fall under 60 from his current position of 893. Yes, you read that right. A potential triumph at Riviera could give the 48-year-old star a boost “as high as #54.”

Destiny and Woods’s health, however, did not seem to be in support of this idea. The event with a field rating of 322.91 will no longer prove to be bountiful for Mr. Woods, Mr. Spieth, or any other player who gets disqualified or withdraws in the time to come.
