The WM Phoenix Open has seen enough drama for a lifetime. From the weather playing the villain at the event to spectators having their own version of chaotic fun, the tournament has witnessed enough moments. But this time around, it’s Rickie Fowler who has stood out with his exquisite choice of clothing—wearing none other than a dirt bike jersey to a golf event!

Surprising, isn’t it? Well, that is exactly what his fans felt as they witnessed him don the choice of dresses as opposed to his usual style of shirts boasting sharp colors or stripes on the greens. Nevertheless, it truly makes one curious as to why the professional is dressed the same and if it had the effect the golfer aimed for.

“Motocross made me a bit fearless on the course,” said a then-22-year-old Fowler in an interview with Golf Digest in 2010. Adding on, he drew a parallel between motocross, his first love, and golf in his life as he said, “I’ve taken the more conservative route on the bike now, but I’m still taking risks and having fun on the golf course.” Thus, one can attribute his choice of wearing the same to the greens in a bid to help him become more fearless on the course. But was the jersey helpful in helping him take a risk successfully at the TPC Scottsdale?

The answer would be a definite ‘NO’ since he didn’t manage to make the cut at the WM Phoenix Open owing to his score of 6 above par over the two days of play. The American pro carded a total of 3 birdies, 3 bogeys, and two double bogeys on his final day of play when he wore the jersey to finish at the same.

A tweet shared by the Jay Monahan-led circuit shows the athlete wearing the same, with various logos all over his body. In the video posted on X, he is spotted driving the ball at the famous 16th hole on the second day where he went ahead to finish the same with a birdie. From Troy Lee Designs to GasGas and Red Bull, the piece of clothing is filled with the sigils of his partners. Moreover, back in 2023, the 35-year-old teamed up with Troy Lee in a bid to create four pairs of shoes inspired by racing. He went ahead to don the same at the U.S. Open where he finished T5 with a score of 5-under.

The six-time PGA Tour champ being dressed in a jersey sure did intrigue fans about his connection with the sport. But, what happened to the athlete and his love for the dirt bike?

The 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic champ got his love for the dirt bike from his father, Rod Fowler. His dad was a fan of the same, leading him to rub off the same on his son, who went ahead to spend a lot of his time on the sport, kicking up dirt and jumping off hills on the race track. However, the future did not hold good news for Fowler.

His affection for the sport remains. It’s just that a rut forced him to give up the same for a career owing to an accident that happened because of the same. Unfortunately, when he was 15 years old, the young athlete broke his leg in three spots and blew up his left knee, compelling him to pursue his second love. But even so, he has never failed to integrate the sport of motocross into his golf commercials and has never missed his chance at watching a race.
