It was the 18th hole at the Gozzer Ranch Golf & Lake Club. Matt Kuchar was playing a round of golf with his son, Cameron Kuchar, and two good friends. The ball was 12 feet away from the hole and the PGA Tour Pro’s son needed to par putt to beat his dad. The result? He made the shot while beating the 46-year-old professional.
Matt Kuchar couldn’t believe his own eyes when his 16-year-old golfing son took him down. “It was a cool moment to have him beat me,” recounted the golfer regardless, “One of those days I knew was going to happen sooner or later.” The professional then conveyed his pride for the talent that his son showcased under pressure, contrary to his expectations: “I was sure pressure was going to get the best of him, but he canned it and was very excited.”

It’s not surprising that Matt Kuchar’s older son managed to par-putt the hole to win over his father. The golfing prodigy already has many accolades to his name in the sport, despite being just 16 years old. Back in 2023, the nine-time PGA Tour champ’s son made it to the finals of the U.S. Open local qualifier, all thanks to his score of 3-under 69.

That’s not all. Cameron Kuchar emerged victorious at the Medalist Tour event at Links Boynton Beach as well as in Indian Spring in the boy’s 13-18 division. Interestingly, he managed to win the former of the two due to his impressive score of 4-under 67, which came off seven birdies. Moreover, the teenager also finished T2 at the 2023 SFPGA Winter Kickoff.
The athlete boasts an impressive record over the years. He won the 2021 Brunswick Junior Classic while finishing T7 at the UGA Golf Course Junior Classic, both of which are part of the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour. What’s more, over the 26 events he played throughout his career, the young Cameron Kuchar has won a total of five tournaments, finishing second in two of them. He is truly a worthy golfer to accompany the nine-time PGA Tour champ on the greens at the PNC Championship.

Matt Kuchar's son beating him at 16—Is this a sign of a new golfing prodigy?
Have an interesting take?
The young athlete has teamed up with his father a lot of times over the years to duke it out alongside the other parent/child duos. Team Kuchar finished tied for the fifth place back in 2023, as well as the 2020 edition of the event while placing themselves at T7 back in 2021. However, Cameron Kuchar’s brother accompanied his father in 2022, allowing the pair to finish T5 yet again.
The 2023 PNC Championship saw Matt Kuchar and his son fire a 15-under 57 on Saturday to lead the field by 3 shots. But a 4-under on the second day pushed them behind four other teams to fall behind Bernhard Langer and his son (the 2023 champs) by six strokes. The finish could only help the Kuchar duo card a sum of $47,000 as opposed to the whopping $200,000 raked in by the champions. Although the pair failed to emerge victorious at the event, the talent that the young athlete showcased on the green then and now has surely made him a player to look out for in the future.
