The 2024 Genesis Invitational winner is married to Mei Matsuyama. The duo got married in January 2017 and celebrated their daughter’s birth in July, in the same year. The couple’s daughter, Kanna Matsuyama, is 6-years-old. The 31-year-old’s reasoning for keeping his marriage under the covers for almost half a year? “No one really asked me if I was married.”
Well, considering how he feels talking to the media is “difficult and stressful,” it does make sense that he waited until the perfect moment to reveal the big news. His exact words were, “I felt that after the PGA would be a good time because our baby is born, and I thought that would be a good time to let everyone know.”
His wife, Mei Matsuyama, also seems to share his private nature. There is not much information available about her life. Nor is she an active member of any social media websites. Surprisingly, there are no posts on the PGAT star’s account about his wife or daughter as well. His social media seems to be an extension of his introverted personality, with just 38 posts, none of which give extensive details of his personal life.

However, if we were to go on a first-name basis, it is possible that the current Mei Matsuyama was once named Mei Unui, a female caddie to Hideki Matsuyama at the 2016 Hero World Challenge. However, it is possible that both of these women share the same name by coincidence. But if we were to assume that this is the same Mei that Mr. Matsuyama married in 2017, their private love story seems to be akin to a fairytale.
What started as a simple golfer-caddie relationship later manifested into a beautiful marriage. It seems unimaginable, doesn’t it? Talking about his 2016 caddie, he once said, “Mei was always positive throughout, even the back nine, and was giving me good vibes, which really helped coming in.”
Undoubtedly, then, it can be said that his wife’s presence must be a source of positivity and good vibes in the famous star’s life. So how has his family life impacted his game?
