What would the golf world look like if Tiger Woods were not a part of it? We don’t want to imagine. The 15-time major champion has dominated the sport for a long time. Since he first surfaced professionally in 1996, he has been a household name due to his skills as an amateur.

While his daughter is not in love with golf as much as he is, Tiger’s son, Charlie Woods, is already arguably the golf world’s favorite. He continues to shoulder his father’s legacy amid his long hiatus, doing complete justice to the legend’s achievements. But when will he tee off in his first major?

Charlie Woods’ timeline for golf majors

The young boy is just 14 years old and competes in junior golf events. The next stage in his life on a golf course will be competing as an amateur golfer. And then come the professional competitions, which include the Masters, the Ryder Cup, other regular PGA Tour events, etc.

A golfer’s coming of age determines the requirements for turning pro. When an amateur golfer turns 18, they can attempt to turn professional. Charlie Woods, 14, is four years away from that at the moment. But that’s not it. Even if he does turn pro, playing on the PGA Tour is a whole other ball game!

To play in tour events as a pro, Woods Jr. will need a PGA Tour card or an exemption, which can be obtained by winning events on other smaller tours. Through such exemptions, he can even compete in certain Tour events as an amateur, and those include the majors, for which he can qualify through the qualifying rounds, etc.

All this, of course, depends on whether Charlie will even pursue golf professionally or even play on the tour. After all, LIV Golf is still in the golf world, and with the $3 billion merger still in the works, much remains to unfold.

Needless to say, Woods Jr. will take a few more years before he is seen competing at any big events, especially majors. Even with that, he has plenty of time to beat his father’s record-breaking age for winning a major!

When did Tiger Woods win his first major?

Tiger Wood’s wins on the Tour began the same year he turned pro, in 1996. The Las Vegas International was his first ever victory as a pro and got the ball rolling. His first major win, however, came in 1997 at the Masters, a year into his pro career. At 21 years, 3 months, and 14 days old, the 82-time PGA Tour winner became one of the youngest ever people to triumph at a major championship.

Charlie has about 7 years before he’s older than Woods Sr. was when he won his first major, and seeing as to how he is now arguably already taller and more buff than Tiger was at 14, it just may be possible that he’ll step out of the golf legend’s shadow and grab his own victory before then.

Do you think that is likely? Or will the son not be able to ever follow through on his dad’s legacy? Let us know in the comments.
