The headlines have been rife with the news of Rory McIlroy’s divorce from wife Erica Stoll. The Northern Irishman did so just three days before the start of the second major of the 2024 PGA Tour calendar, the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, curiosity naturally arises about the golfer’s wife, whom he tied the knot with 7 years ago.

The two met each other owing to a sheer coincidence of sorts. The soon-to-be-former couple met at the 2012 Ryder Cup when the athlete had overslept due to a time zone mixup, nearly missing his tee time. As a result, Stoll, who was working as a PGA Transport official back then, helped him reach the course in Medinah, Illinois via a police escort.

Rory McIlroy’s future ex-wife’s profession

Born in Irondequoit, New York, Stoll did her schooling at the West Irondequoit school. After her high school education, the golfer’s future wife earned her degree in Marketing at the Rochester Institute of Technology. During her final year, she managed to get a job as an on-site office manager for the PGA in the lead-up to the 2008 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, driving the final nail to her conviction.

“The way PGA employees present themselves is so admirable and professional. That’s the kind of job I want, and it’s doing something I love,” stated Stoll when expressing her admiration for the profession. Soon after, McIlroy’s future wife became a full-time employee at the PGA of America in 2011 following which she remained as the Manager of the Championship Volunteer Operations at the same for several years. However, she left the job a while later.

Not a lot of information has been made public about Rory McIlroy’s soon-to-be ex-wife as she does her best to keep herself out of the spotlight. However, sources mention her to be currently working as a sports administrator, in line with her old job at the PGA of America, where she was able to meet McIlroy.

Although the two met in 2012, it wasn’t until later that the two started their relationship. The athlete was just coming off from a split with Caroline Wozniacki in 2013 after which the couple started to officially date in 2014. A year later, McIlroy would soon propose to Erica Stoll.

The 35-year-old proposed to her back in 2015 when the two visited Paris for their vacation. Following the same, Stoll and McIlroy exchanged their vows in 2017 in a ceremony at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland, a wedding which boasted tight security as well as many A-list celebrities including the likes of Stevie Wonder, as well as actors such as Jamie Dornan.
