Despite his eminent absence from the on-course action, Tiger Woods and his role have been all over the news for some time now. As a result of the $3 billion merger between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed PIF, this new responsibility of the sixth Player Director on the Policy Board shows Woods as a cynosure in the eyes of the golf world. Interestingly, the rather prominent step wasn’t an overnight decision. Hence, it required certain foresighted steps.

One of these measures involved the support of PGA Tour players for changes in the policy board through a letter to gain more authority and transparency. While this list boasted noteworthy names like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Adam Scott, Rickie Fowler, and others, the World No. 3, Jon Rahm, also added his name to this united front. Hence, as the Spanish star took to the mic on Monday for a pre-tournament press meet, the questions revolving around his affirmation of the paramount changes were unavoidable, and the 2-time major winner far from shied away from them!

Hence, in a recent press conference at the TPC Southwind golf course, it was not surprising to witness Jon Rahm, who is an integral part of the league, take on several questions concerning both.

Amidst all the new occurrences, the Spanish golfer’s performance seemed to be the least of the journalists’ concerns. The reporters were rather quick to ask Rahm about the letter that brought all sorts of changes to the PGA Tour settings. One of them asked, “The letter that was reported last week that eventually ended up with Tiger Woods on the…

Saving the reporter from explaining the whole scenario, the 2023 Masters Tournament Winner immediately replied, “Yeah, my name was on that, yeah.” The journalist jumped in with his curious question about why the PGA Tour Pro decided to be a part of the letter.

Rahm seemed rather clear about the motive behind the massive step forward. He clarified, “Because I believe we have a duty as the players.” His focus while answering revolved around the factor of presenting a “unified front“. According to him, this would be their best bet for holding them accountable and witnessing clarity.
