The Nedbank Golf Challenge 2023 will be the penultimate tournament in the DP World Tour’s current season. The regular season came to an end with the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. And now, the Nedbank Challenge stands before the ultimate event of the calendar, the DP World Tour Championship.

Max Homa, who is headed to South Africa for the 41st edition of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, recently tweeted about it. The golfer cracked a little joke, as he usually does, and the fans joined in on the conversation. The comment section gave the perfect space for a fun little banter.

Max Homa had an incredible run-up to the Ryder Cup with five back-to-back Top 10 finishes leading up to the grand biennial event. In the Ryder Cup, too, he gave a commendable performance, although the European team went home with the Cup.

Post Ryder Cup, Homa is ready for his first outing. He chose to pick the penultimate DP World Tour event off the current schedule. In his tweet about the Nedbank Championship, he wrote, “Long trip upcoming but excited to play some #golf outside of the US and experience some new things.”

He further talked about the lions and birds in SA, and gave a twist to bring a golf joke on board. “I know they’ve got lots of lions over there. Here’s to hoping they haven’t scared away the birdies.”

Speaking of jokes, Max Homa recently cracked a joke about the controversial American author Alan Shipnuck when the conversation about the Rory McIlroy accusations popped up. He quickly removed his tweet, though, and then playfully semi-apologised for the same.

Now, let’s explore the comments from the fans on Max Homa’s golf/animals joke.

Fans cheer, mock, and welcome Max Homa

The comments were mostly light-hearted and welcoming. While some of them took a dig at Max Homa’s sense of humor, the others warned him about what he should expect in South Africa.

One fan compared Max Homa’s joke to dad jokes. “Good joke, Dad. 🤦‍♂️” Hey, dad jokes are cool. What is this person trying to say?

Partly as a warning and partly as a roast, this fan said, “And they aren’t as lame as your joke”. We are guessing they are talking about the lions when they say they aren’t as lame.

A concerned fan recommended Max Homa should avoid petting the lions. “No matter how much they purr, do not pet them,” wrote the fan.

Another fan went as far as explaining a regional word ‘Lekker’ to wish Max Homa a nice experience in South Africa. However, they also warned him of leopard sightings at golf courses in the country. Scary, isn’t it?

One more fan warned Homa to beware of animals other than lions. This one mentioned how snakes sometimes enter the fairways. Not the most motivating thing to say, is it?

This fan summed up the warning by claiming that lions are the least that the 32-year-old golfer should be worried about. They added an array of animal icons to scare off Homa. Hopefully, he doesn’t have nightmares about the animals!
