Can Davis Thompson and Eric Cole outshine the veterans at the 2024 John Deere Classic?

TPC Deere Run will soon crown its champion. The 2024 John Deere Classic, which kicked off on July 4, Thursday, will soon witness its final being played out on July 7, Sunday. The event, meanwhile, has gifted the community with a scintillating display of golf from many talented professionals, including Davis Thompson, Eric Cole, Hayden Springer, Jordan Spieth, and many more. While their eyes will surely look towards the trophy, it’s not as if that is the only reward they will get. Cue the dollar bills!

Just like any other PGA Tour event, the John Deere Classic will also award its winners a cut from the alluring prize purse set aside for the same. As per the official PGA Tour announcement, a cut of $1.44 million will be awarded to the champion out of the total $8 million prize purse. As opposed to the champ, the runner-up will only receive a figure of $872,000.

There will also be FedEx points as well as OWGR points being awarded to the golfers aside from the prize money. The event this year, which boasts a field rating of 222.86080, will reward its victor with a figure of 38.33043 on the Official World Golf Rankings. On the other hand, similar to other PGA Tour events, a total of 500 FedEx Cup points will be awarded to the winner.

There is so much at stake for the golfers who are set to tee it up on Sunday at the TPC Deere Run. The athletes will, consequently, hope to dish out their best while hoping to clinch the title of champ. Jordan Spieth will also look to emerge victorious, just like he did back in 2013 and 2015.

A bleak yet hopeful picture for Jordan Spieth at the John Deere Classic

The 30-year-old is currently placed at T12, tied with eight other golfers, including the likes of Ben Griffin and Harry Hall. He pushed past many in the field to rise up the standings after placing T47 on Friday while making the cut. If fortune really does favor the American Pro, then a scintillating performance on his part, coupled with a few bad shots by the board toppers, might end up seeing him lift the trophy.

While it does sound hopeful for the golfer, one thing is for sure: Spieth has a long hill to climb on Sunday if he is to clinch his third victory at the John Deere Classic and his 14th PGA Tour win. The athlete will need to dish out an even better performance than the ones he has been showcasing over the last three days: a 14-under overall with figures of 69-67-63.

Have an interesting take?

The American pro himself was a bit optimistic about his chances on Sunday, despite the goal being far off. “If I can be as solid as I was today and maybe catch a couple extra breaks,” divulged Spieth, “it would take something extremely flawless to have a chance, but I’ll try and do what I did today.” His fans would surely be hoping for a triumphant return of the golfer. But will he be able to do it? They can only wait!
