It was truly a tragic week for the PGA Tour. The headlines in the golf world were and continue to be filled with the sad news of the untimely death of Grayson Murray. Even so, the show must go on because that is what the professional would have wanted, as per his parents. The Charles Schwab Challenge will, thus, move on to the final round on Sunday, May 26.
A total of 71 golfers made the cut on Friday, after which they moved on to the third round of the tournament. Topping the list of athletes is Davis Riley, followed closely by none other than Scottie Scheffler, the current No. 1 in the world. Many in the community are naturally curious about who would win the event and when they would start their play to do the same for the final round of the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Although Scheffler found himself in a bit of a hassle with a first-day score of 72 (+2), including two bogeys, a double bogey, and three birdies, he was able to bounce back with two flawless rounds. The athlete hit 12 more birdies over the next two days, thereby jumping to the second spot behind Riley at 10-under with figures of 72-65-63 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Topping the scorecard is the 27-year-old aiming for his second PGA Tour win, the first of which came off at the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Nick Hardy. Riley managed to shoot past the field of talented athletes through figures of 66-64-66 allowing him to have a four-stroke lead over the current No. 1 golfer in the world.
Meanwhile, the likes of Pierceson Coody, Hayden Buckley, Robby Shelton, Tony Finau, and Collin Morikawa among others are closely behind the duo at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Morikawa would be hoping to end his unlucky streak of missing out on the win at the final day’s play, especially after a similar experience at the recently ended major, the 2024 PGA Championship, where he finished tied for T4.
