“It doesn’t define me as a person. It’s just something that I do,” conveyed Scottie Scheffler in a pre-Masters interview at Augusta back in April. The current world No. 1 was seemingly humble as he entered the season’s first major with seven top-10 finishes, including two wins. Now, fast forward to June 2024, and the golfer has a total of 13 top-10 finishes with six victories. Even so, he still sports the same attitude as he gears up for the fourth major, the Open Championship.

The golfer was spotted mentioning the same in an interview post his win at the recently ended Travelers Championship. Scheffler pointed out how his performance on the circuit, till now, doesn’t provide him with any sort of validation before entering the major at Royal Troon while expressing his desire to play at the same.

“Not really,” denied Scottie Scheffler, in the press conference, while indicating how his second major win doesn’t make him feel validated. Reiterating his words ahead of the Masters, he said, “I don’t really define myself by my wins or by my losses, and so I do my best to compete and have the right attitude.” It sure did pay off for the golfer seeing as how he raked in a whopping $27,696,858 from 15 starts.

The American Pro revealed his mindset ahead of the fourth major as he said, “Going into The Open Championship, I don’t need to feel any sort of validation or anything like that.” He even expressed his gratitude at being able to emerge victorious six times this year, “It’s been a tremendous year and I’m grateful to have some wins.” Interestingly, Scheffler, with his Travelers Championship win, has managed to join Tiger Woods and Nick Prize in having six victories in a single season.

The golfer then divulged his plans for the rest of the season as well. “I’m looking forward to going out and competing and playing in the Open Championship,” said Scottie Scheffler before adding the Olympics, and the FedEx playoffs to his list. The athlete has already qualified for the U.S.A. team for the Paris Games and leads the standings for the FedEx Cup points list at No. 1 with figures of 5,767.750.

“I’m a faithful guy,” confessed the pro before adding how he believes in Jesus Christ, “Ultimately, I think that’s what defines me the most.” He also divulged his purpose in coming out to play golf at such a big event like the Masters when he said, “I think that’s what defines me the most is my faith. I believe in one creator, that I’ve been called to come out here, do my best, compete, and glorify God, and that’s pretty much it.”

Well, Scottie Scheffler sure did exhibit his best at Augusta National seeing as how he won the major back then. He replicated his scintillating performance at TPC River Highlands as well while scoring a 22-under 258 and tying himself at T1 with Tom Kim. The champ then won the playoffs against the South Korean Pro before denying the need for any sort of validation from his wins. Truly a humble golfer, he is!
