You know him as a legend in golf. The 82-time PGA Tour champ. A Hall of Famer. The 15X major tournament winner and one of the best to ever play the game. But there is yet another name by which Tiger Woods is known: golf course architect. Although he has experienced his fair share of blows as a designer, such as the recent one at Buncombe County, which is set to be sold for $19 million, that doesn’t mean he has hung up his boots.

The 48-year-old was spotted donning the shoes of a designer once again months after his course, El Cardonal at Diamante hosted a PGA Tour event for the first time. Interestingly, this time around, he was working on a different set of greens, the Trout National.

A tweet was shared by Joe Pompliano mentioning how Mr.T “was recently in New Jersey working on the design of Mike Trout’s new golf course.” Adding on, he divulged how the American baseball star was also spotted alongside him wearing the logo of the golf club, which is basically “a golf tee, flag, and stitching that looks like a baseball” clubbed together.

The golf writer also disclosed how the Trout National-The Reserve would consist of an 18-hole course along with a clubhouse, restaurant, and hotel. Moreover, he also stated how the new layout, which is set to seamlessly weave between a former quarry and rambling farmland, is slated to be opened in the year 2025.

The layout would also be accompanied by a flexible short course and an expansive putting course. Moreover, the grounds would also witness the development of practice facilities boasting world-class standards and a performance center, along with a chapel, among others. Dubbed “highly strategic in nature,” the fairways in the TGR-designed layout would offer multiple routes from the tee to the greens, providing a challenge to the golfer.

Fortunately, it appears the 1997 Masters Tournament champ has not let the recent blow hamper his stride. What is it about, you ask? It’s natural to be curious about the same.

The Buncombe County setback

Well, Buncombe County was set to witness America’s first Tiger Woods-designed golf course 17 years ago. However, the project failed owing to certain problems, including the tanking of the real estate market. Although the 840-acre property went up for auction in 2017, it also failed to be sold there but went ahead to be bought by South Carolina investors for $15.5 million in 2019. Currently, 550 acres of the same are up for sale with a $19 million price tag.
