Every person in golf remembers the day of June 6, 2023; it was the day when the PGA Tour and DP World Tour announced that they would be merging with LIV Golf to form a separate profitable entity. Not only that, the Tours would be financially managed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, placing them under the same umbrella as LIV Golf.
But ever since the merger, people have been wondering what it would mean for LIV Golf’s future. Will the league end? Will it sustain itself? Now it seems that people have finally gotten all their answers, thanks to the Saudi-backed league’s CEO, Greg Norman!

On July 28, LIV Golf organized an invite-only event in Manhattan to woo sponsors. Other than the officials, LIV’s star golfers, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, and Bryson DeChambeau, were also there as they raved about the league’s team format. But what did the officials talk about? They discussed the league’s future plans, growth, and demographics.
As mentioned in The Washington Post, while discussing the future of the Saudi-funded league, Norman said that when the golfers were invited to play in the league, they were not invited for just 1 or 2 years but for many years. The only reason golfers came aboard the league was that the players understood the future and “they recognized it,” and the golfers just “got it straight away.”
LIV Golf officials are elated with the magnificent growth that has been in place for the league, despite not having some big sponsors. In the event, Norman also said that the amalgamation of the leagues has only been done for the betterment of the game and to put the sport above everything.
Even though the Australian left no stone unturned while opening up about LIV’s future, his own place in the newly formed entity remains uncertain. Yasir Al-Rumayyan has been declared the chief, while Jay Monahan will head the merged entity as the CEO. Moreover, even if the Saudi League’s existence continues, the PGA Tour seems adamant about keeping Norman out of the picture. The Tour’s COO, Ron Price, even commented on the matter sometime back and said, “We have a complete infrastructure in place to manage events. It would make no sense to bring in that type of executive to manage what is now a 14-series of events.”
Despite that, Norman is convinced that the results of the $3 billion merger have so far been in favor of LIV Golf. He claimed that the league’s course was definitely becoming smoother.

He also said that ever since the league was introduced, the primary aim has been to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the PGA Tour and be supportive of the golfing ecosystem. The main aim was to grow the golf ecosystem. There has always been room for both leagues, but people are just realizing it now.
