The weather in the Sunshine City of Florida is currently the biggest rivalry on the PGA Tour. From the beginning, it has been causing the Tour’s Florida Swing trouble, and its final event too has not been spared. The Valspar Championship 2024 had to suspend its first round at 7:46 ET due to darkness.
The event’s second round predicted cloudy skies with threats of rain. And in line with that, and following suit with the Thursday round, play was suspended with 15 golfers left to finish their round. While the round will resume at 9 a.m. on Saturday, one can’t help but wonder if, amidst ongoing misery, the third round will fall prey to the same conditions. And as per the weather predictions, it is more than likely!
The skies over the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort during round 3 are pretty dark. With a 30% chance of rain during the day, the density of the shower is predicted to be approximately 0.94mm. Moreover, temperatures are expected to go as high as 23 degrees and fall as low as 19 degrees, with winds blowing from north to northwest at 29 km/h.

Estimates place the sunrise at 7:29 a.m. and the sunset at 7:44 p.m. Notably, this is around the same time during which the first two rounds have been suspended due to darkness, making it a high possibility for Saturday.
Despite all the delays and suspensions, however, a few have managed to shine through the literal darkness, one of them being the beloved Justin Thomas. And with five players tied for the lead, and him and eight more close behind, he’s in for a real treat.

Leading the scorecard are Stewart Cink, Kevin Streelman, Chandler Phillips, Brendon Todd, and Mackenzie Hughes, with a score of 6 under. Apart from them, Justin Thomas is among the bigger names in the 5-under group. Despite a double bogey on the 13th hole thanks to a water ball and penalty, he still managed to find a total score of on a water ball before going all the way to 2-under on Friday.

Even though JT is tied with eight others, he is just one stroke behind the top tier. Notably, he has also outshone the many other big Tour names in the two rounds, like Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth, who’ve carded bogey after bogey. He was also one of the few golfers to card under par scores on both rounds, which at the Copperhead Course is no easy feat.
