The PGA of America broke the news through a detailed statement on social media. However, the reason for Phil’s withdrawal was not provided. Meanwhile, most of the fans connected the dots and thought it was because of the rival LIV Golf Invitational Series. Well, this could be one of the reasons, but this might not be the only reason.
According to journalist Matt Ginella, Phil withdrew from the event because of his poor golf. However, it is crucial to note that even he has received this information through a source. He wrote, “The San Diego rumor mill has Phil playing bad golf at local courses. I’ve heard two recent rounds in the high-70s at The Farms, which factored into the pass on PGA.”

It is believed that Phil’s poor golfing form could be one of the reasons for his withdrawal from the upcoming major championship. This will also mark the first time since 1992 that Mickelson won’t be a part of the PGA Championship.
Will Phil Mickelson join the LIV Golf Invitational Series?
Phil Mickelson hasn’t competed in professional golf since Saudi International in February 2022. Soon after he came back from the event, his comments about the PGA Tour were published. Therefore, the 51-year-old golfer started receiving hate and trolling from everyone. He even lost the majority of his sponsors as a result of this saga.

However, Phil still requested a release to compete in the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series along with other golfers, but the PGA Tour and even the DP World Tour have rejected the request for release. Hence, golfers joining the rival league might face consequences from the two giant golf tours.
Moreover, Mickelson hasn’t confirmed anything as of now. He has not accepted his association with LIV Golf nor denied it. However, if he competes in the inaugural event in London, Phil might face consequences from the PGA Tour.
