The 2024 edition of the Texas Children’s Houston Open is nearing its end. After the Tour called an end to its Florida Swing at the Valspar Championship, the 14th event of the men’s circuit seems to have grabbed the attention of some of the greatest talent, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Tony Finau.
A field of 144 players started to tee it up at the Memorial Park Golf Course on March 28th, and the game is set to near its end on Sunday. This year, with an increase of $700,000 in the purse, comes an increase in the energy of all those competing. The 2024 edition of the long-running Houston Open boasts an increased purse of a massive $9.1 million! A significant increase from the last edition of the game held in 2022, where the total purse was capped at $8.4 million. The winner, Tony Finau, earned $1.512 million, and the runner-up, Tyson Alexander, earned $915,600.
This year, however, the increase in the purse is reflected in both the winner’s share and the runner-up’s. While the winner will earn a whopping $1.638 million, the runner-up is set to earn $991,900 this year. Here is the total prize money breakdown:

The Memorial Park Golf Course can become a historic record in Scottie Scheffler’s career if he manages to win his third consecutive title this weekend. Scheffler is currently tied for first place with a score of 9-under-par after Round 3. Giving the world’s No. 1 tough competition are David Skinns, Stephan Jaeger, Alejandro Tosti, and Thomas Detry, all tied for first place and with a fair shot to win the competition.

Some other promising players who are spearheading the field going into the final round include Nick Dunlap, Taylor Moore, and Akshay Bhatia. As of the third round, they are tied at T6. The defending champion, Tony Finau, stands at T9 with a total score of 7-under-par.
