Does Rickie Fowler's goodwill make him a better role model than a golfer?

Finding it hard to beat Rickie Fowler in the sport of golf? No worries, there’s a way to defeat the PGA Tour pro, just not through the gentleman’s game, that’s all. Well, that’s exactly what happened to the golfer as he was dominated by a Shriners Hospital ambassador and patient named Greyson in a game of pickleball.

Yes, he was defeated by the 20-year-old ambassador, who was born without a femur and two fingers. A video of the match was shared on the official social media handles of the Jay Monahan-led PGA Tour, highlighting how Greyson didn’t let his differences hold him back.

“Being able to bring patients out,” divulged Rickie Fowler as he alluded to the patient. “Really helps everyone to be able to put life into perspective. To see guys like him thriving at life and dealing with what he’s had to deal with, and beat me up on the court, he doesn’t let that hold him back.” It seems like the 35-year-old professional certainly has a soft spot for the Shriners Hospital ambassador.

Have an interesting take?

Remember the 2023 fires in Maui that killed over 100 people, destroyed many homes, and caused billions in damages? And remember the 2024 Sentry where many golfers used the opportunity to give back to the community? Well, Rickie Fowler was no different, as he collaborated with Puma and artist Wailani Artates to raise funds and awareness to help with Maui’s recovery.

He used the opportunity to wear a limited-edition Puma hat during the tournament, which has since sold out. The proceeds went to the Maui United Way and Lahainaluna High School. Combine that with the recent video, and some fans couldn’t help but jokingly urge the golfer to run for POTUS, “Rickie for President.” Another admirer just pointed out, “If you don’t like Rickie, then you may be the problem.”

The Ryder Cup star had also taken to tee off at the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin, finishing tied for T23 with five other golfers, including C.T. Pan and Beau Hossler, among others. Even though the struggling pro failed to leave a mark at the tournament, he made sure to partake in the kind gesture that made the 20-year-old’s day. A fan couldn’t help but express approval on X, commenting, “Dude moves good, good show.”

It truly was a heartwarming sight to behold the two athletes duking it out on the court while embracing the sportsmanship of the game. No wonder Rickie Fowler received so many positive responses despite his struggles on the golf course. Surely an unforgettable moment for the golfer.
