Golf can be a frustrating sport at times, due to its precise gameplay but combined with uncertainty. Recently, there have been many incidents where we have seen golfers losing their cool. Collin Morikawa, who was runner-up for the second time this year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, snubbed the media for post-match interviews. His opinion of doing that was widely discouraged. Recently, another incident related to frustration has got an instant lesson at the Valspar Championship.

The most colorful event of the calendar has been in the news with a new topic each day. Earlier, the mysterious withdrawals took the attention, then it was the nickname ritual that trended widely. Out of the roster, Adam Hadwin has been on the news because of his wife—Jessica Hadwin’s active update on X about the quirky name on his caddy’s bib, “Jessica’s Husband.” The updates have left the golf world in joy. But after these gimmicky, humorous moments, the golfer was in utmost frustration due to his performance.

The 37-year-old with his first round of 71 having two birdies and two bogeys was in contention to make the cut. With all hopes to do so, the golfer entered the course on Friday. However, in the second round, two double bogeys and two bogeys changed the storyline. He recorded a round of 76, which resulted in him missing the cut.

His disappointment was apparent, as he was walking back after his round, he hit his club hard into the grass field. But it was something he quickly regretted. As soon as the club hit the ground, the water pipe started sprinkling water with high pressure. The consequence not just calmed him down, but also left the crowd in laughter. Alex Gelman posted the video on X with the caption, “Received this via DM: Adam Hadwin learning the consequences of his actions on Friday at the Valspar Championship.” The frustration of the golfer might have led him to a regretful situation. But inside him, it seems he was exasperated with his concerning performance. Well, with the performance he has recorded this year, out of the 9 participations, he missed the cut in four events. Not only this, but the best finish he could achieve was a T9 at the WM Phoenix Open.

Despite his declining performance and frustration, his image was also compromised by his actions. However, another golfer had a similar situation but was able to save face with his actions right after.

PGA Tour pro kept promise despite frustration

It started with Morikawa, then Jordan Spieth, and now Hadwin. Though two golfers have observed the consequences, Spieth among them had a moment of praise after his move. During the third round of the PLAYERS Championship, Jordan Spieth was 7 strokes behind the leader. He was 4 under on the 14th hole. But his blunder on the 15th increased the lead to 9 strokes.

This crucial moment blunder left the golfer in frustration and he was seen swinging the club in the air like a baseball bat. Well, such moments of anger and frustration are what everyone aims to avoid, but that wasn’t the case with Spieth. He kept a promise of signing the bib of a fan. Even after a disappointing round, coupled with his reaction, Spieth still kept his cool and left the golf world in awe. Following the grand gesture by the golfer, the fan shared a video on Instagram writing, “All you need is hope 🙌 @jordanspieth.”

The generosity and considerate behavior of the golfer has set an example for others. However, it does not mean that a moment of temper tantrum in the sport is encouraged. Keeping one’s head cool even in the face of adversity and failures has always been one of the hallmarks of good sportsmanship.
