Undoubtedly, money plays an eminent role in numerous professional sports; this is especially true for the game of golf. While the venue, playing field, and tournament surely are important assets of the game, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that prize money grabs massive attention, too, the pressures of which are felt by everyone, including two-time major champion Jon Rahm.

His answer clearly reflected his frustration concerning this stereotype usually associated with the gameplay. With that, let us find out the details of what the World No.3 golfer had to enunciate.

Jon Rahm has certainly been one of the most successful players on the Tour. In fact, the figures of $51,546,651 as his official earnings vouch for the same. Interestingly, while answering questions concerning his performance, Rahm seemed quick to respond to all sorts of curiosities. However, as soon as the line of questioning shifted toward the money made and its presence on the priority list, the golfer’s dismissal mode kicked in instantly.
Without letting the reporter finish the query, he answered with a scornful “No!” even while the journalist tried to continue with the doubt. Rahm sternly repeated the denial along with expressing his distaste for the line of thought.
His immediate interjection to the inquiry was, “It’s one of the things that frustrates me about watching this broadcast.” Clearing out any lingering hesitation, he remarked about there being zero chances of having money on anyone’s mind while either missing a putt or any other time of the game.
“You’re trying to finish as high as possible. You’re trying to win a tournament,” stated the 11-times PGA Tour victor. He called it his ”pet peeve” to make everything about money. The PGA Tour professional with utter conviction added how money matters least when someone wins a major tournament from his experience and went on to reflect on the beauty of the game.
Referring to his 2023 Masters Tournament win, Rahm unriddles the beauty of golf
The first major of the year [The Masters Tournament] was dominated by Rahm. Not only was he able to win with a commanding 12 under par, but he also took home a whopping $3.24 million, which could be life-changing money for many. However, looking at the golfer’s response to the money-oriented question, it appears the case is slightly different.
Recalling his Green Jacket victory, Rahm stressed the statement that none of the major winners this year will probably even remember the amount they made. This, he called, was “the beauty about this [golf] game” and expressed that’s exactly how it should be.

However, the PGA Tour icon was quick to admit that this remark comes from “an extremely privileged position financially.” Despite that, Rahm sounded assured when he expressed that a golfer is definitely making tons of money, especially in higher positions on the leaderboard. But, ultimately it is the winning that matters over the prize.
Even when the reporter probed one last time quoting “But when you’re a young guy, though, and money might.. the difference might really matter, if you don’t have enough“, Rahm still replied with a chain of No. He believed to become a great player one must think about winning rather than their bank account.
