Once in a while, golf sees an unexpected star rise in the ranks and occupy the space alongside golfing greats. Ludvig Aberg is one such breakthrough player. He got the opportunity to play the iconic Ryder Cup 2023 before tasting the greens for the masters. The European star was a massive sensation during his amateur days, as he was the World No. 1 amateur in April 2021.

He turned pro this year itself, in June. In the upcoming years, Aberg will play on the PGA Tour and the European Tour. The Ryder Cup captain, Luke Donald, could not resist choosing him for the European squad. Calling him a ‘generational talent,’ the skipper and his teammates firmly believe in Aberg’s game and skills. Born in 1999, the 23-year-old has many pillars of support surrounding him. They play an integral role in making him who he is today, aiding him in his journey to shine as brightly as possible in the golf world.

Born and raised in Eslov, Sweden, Ludvig Noa Aberg grew up playing at the Eslov Golf Club. He returns to his first golf course every time he is home. On the same stage, as an amateur golfer, Ludvig won the Swedish Golf Tour twice in 2020. His dominance was also visible on Texas Tech University’s golf team. Interestingly, the love for golf did not come naturally to Ludvig. Instead, it was unintentionally instilled bit by bit by his father at a very young age.

His father, Johan Aberg, was a golf enthusiast. And he often had young Ludvig accompany him to the golf course. The intention was never to have him turn into a professional golfer but to spend quality time with his son. Ludvig Aberg was far more interested in soccer growing up and played as a central midfielder. One of his skills is that he can spot the ball conveniently in the middle of the park. But it was his discipline that made him a champion in everything he chose because he was easily frustrated with boys who did not take his golf sessions seriously.

It was his mother, Mia Aberg, who saw this spark for golf in her son very early, around 6 or 7. Not because his technique was smooth, but due to his discipline and focus. She told Ghanafuo““I think the first memory of Ludvig having the potential to become a good golfer was probably when he was around six or seven years old and had kids clinics with other kids his age. The other kids were more interested in smelling flowers and having fun, but Ludvig wanted to practice and play, so he got fairly upset with the other guys for not caring about improving.”

At the age of 13, Aberg switched his focus from soccer to golf and focused on fostering his skills there. But he is an ardent spectator of the sport and a massive fan of Liverpool FC. What started as a ritual based on the greed inculcating in a kid because his father made him stay on the course by luring him with an ice cream paved the way for the passion currently resting in Rome at Marco Simone Golf Course and Club.

Meet Aberg’s girlfriend and sister

His journey to becoming a golfing superstar would be incomplete without the presence of his elder sister, Linnea Aberg. Although he prefers to stay private and away from the public eye, his sister has never shied away from supporting Ludvig. The siblinghood they share is a testament to the healthy and inspirational environment that inhabits the Aberg household.

He often posts pictures with his sister on his Instagram, further celebrating the love that they share for each other. While Linnea Aberg has a private account, away from the limelight of being in the public eye, her brother Ludvig Aberg seems to be embarking on a journey of being popular and celebrated.

At the Ryder Cup gala, he was spotted with a fellow batchmate from Texas Tech University. It was another talented athlete, Olivia Peet, who accompanied him ahead of one of the most important events of his life. It is safe to assume that the pair met each other while studying at the university. And their bond stems from years of friendship and knowing each other.

Peet is a talented tennis player born in Manchester, England. She has been on the list of ten nationally ranked players in the UK, made it to the finals of the U16 British Nationals, and captained Queenswood Girls School in London. The duo is the best at what they do and definitely has an exciting future ahead.
