The slightly extended buzz around golf town is the recently announced official Ryder Cup US team. One aspect of it that has not been talked about as much, though, is the state of the LIV golfers who deserved a spot on the team. The American LIV golfers had permission to enter the Ryder Cup US team, but the eligibility parameters were hard on them. The captain’s picks failed on most of them as well.
One such player who undoubtedly faced disappointment was a three-time LIV Golf winner. However, amid the controversy surrounding his omission, the 31-year-old now draws attention to his skill. But not in golf; in a completely different sport, about which he openly boasted of his skills, calling himself the best among professional golfers!

With the shift to LIV, making it to the top six in the Ryder Cup standings has become a herculean task for LIV golfers with very few tournaments to score points in. So naturally, Talor Gooch and other deserving LIV golfers were counting on the captain’s picks to do justice to their form and game.
Under these circumstances, a fan asked Gooch his opinion on the Ryder Cup picks. He empathetically acknowledged that Johnson had a tough task and commented that he had done a good job. And while, of course, controversy is rampant as to whether or not Gooch deserved a spot, it seems like the LIV star himself is vying for a different place altogether—one at the top of another sport!
When a fan questioned Gooch about his ping-pong skills on Instagram, the golf pro claimed he would be the “#1 ranked ping-pong player in all of professional golf.” The question mentioned that the fan had heard that Gooch is not that great at ping-pong. However, as per the LIV star’s answer, he was the best. Of course, whether he was being satirical or honest will only be seen when he publicly engages in a game!
Speculation about his table tennis skills now adds to the already ample amount of speculation about the golfer floating about. The main ones, of course, are all about the Ryder Cup. Gooch had worked really hard in the past months to earn a spot in the prestigious event; however, it seems like even his three recent wins (two back-to-back) were not enough for that!

Gooch was heartbroken despite a great year
Since his move to LIV Golf last year, Talor Gooch has won three LIV events. The first came in April, and the second followed in the event right after. With the form that he has been in, had he been playing on the PGA Tour, chances are that he might have made it to the top six and auto-qualified for the Ryder Cup. However, that was not the case! And since LIV events don’t add points to the Ryder Cup table, it seems like his fate had been sealed a while ago.
In a recent interview, Gooch sadly commented on how his play should have at least generated a discussion. He mentioned how he and his wife were planning to spend time with Max Homa and his wife in Italy. It was undoubtedly heart-wrenching that he was not even considered to play in Rome, even after the incredible year he had had.
