Friday was pretty disastrous for the US team as they gave the Europeans a 5-up lead on the very first day. However, Saturday has been more kind to the west of the Atlantic. The two teams have won an equal number of matches, and the US team did not let their opponents push up their lead.

One of the key victories today for the US team came from the Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark combination. They were playing against Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick. Toward the end of that match, a tiff came about between the two teams. The European Captain Luke Donald had addressed this.

A recent tweet from a golf writer quoted Luke Donald speaking about the incident at the 18th hole, involving Cantlay’s caddie, Joe LaCava and Rory McIlroy. Donald reportedly said, “Rory politely asked Joe to move aside from his line of vision. He stood there and didn’t move for awhile and continued to wave the hat.”

Patrick Cantlay was once involved in a controversy surrounding his hat. Some speculate that it may be the reason he didn’t wear his hat this time around. The crowd started trolling Cantlay for the hat gag.

In response, the US team waved their hats to support their teammate, particularly near the end of the match, where the US team won the last two holes. In an excitement to celebrate the potential 18th hole win, and to join the hat wave, LaCava waved his hat.

This irked Rory McIlroy, who claimed that LaCava was blocking his line of vision. LaCava’s response did not sit well with the European team and there was a bit of verbal hassle in the scene. Shane Lowry and Justin Rose chipped in and got involved reportedly.

Although Rory McIlroy sounded calm about the incident while speaking to reporters the issue apparently got to his head. It then lead to a fiasco at a parking lot scene.

Reportedly, Jim ‘Bones’ McKay, Justin Thomas’ caddie, was at this parking lot talking to Rory McIlroy. Shane Lowry and his wife were also presentin the scene. It is likely since the issue involves a caddie from the US team, McKay felt that a conversation might help.

However, it turns out that McIlroy was pretty upset and he loudly reiterated how disgraceful it is. Reports confirm that he was indeed referring to the incident at the 18th hole.

Later Shane Lowry and his wife had made sure that before McIlroy’s rage burst out he went away. The conversation is supposed to have extended for a few more minutes without McIlroy present.
