In just a few days, the golf world will witness one of the fiercest competitions of this year. As the 44th edition of the Ryder Cup draws near, the players are making extra efforts to hone their golfing skills. And for the European Ryder Cup team, the BMW PGA Championship was the best opportunity to make their game stronger.

All 12 players took part in the tournament, and among them, Viktor Hovland stood out among the best. At the mere age of 25, Viktor Hovland has become one of the raving stars on the PGA Tour circuit. When the Ryder Cup was last played at Whistling Straights two years ago, he was also the first player from Norway to represent Europe. And once again, this year, since he’s got the chance to strive and realize his patriotic goal, he’s leaving no stone unturned in its preparation!

Hovland’s meticulous preparations for the Rome face-off

Hovland just completed the $9 million BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour. He put up a valiant fight and took fifth place. He sat down for the interview following the game to discuss the event and, obviously, the Ryder Cup.

Hovland began by giving a detailed account of the final day of the tournament. He claimed that the day was windy and that it had begun to rain. In order to get close enough to get birdies with that, one must hit extremely hard. ”During that part, I was just trying to make pars, and I’m glad I was able to pick up a couple birdies coming in,” said Hovland.

Reporters then asked, as he is gearing up for the Ryder Cup, how are his body and mind feeling ahead of a big week in Rome? To that, Hovland replied that a few weeks ago he was in Oklahoma, and he didn’t do anything there. So this event was a great way to practice. “I felt like that was a good way to recharge the batteries,” he stated, speaking of the event and his plans after. “I’ll go to Norway and relax and practice a little bit… It’s going to be a big week, obviously, in Rome. So got to make sure that I’m up for it.”

Given his powerful golfing skills, his presence on the field could be a great threat to the US Ryder Cup team. Moreover, the Norwegian star is in great form now, having won the Tour Championship just last month and securing a top-5 finish this week. However, Hovland wasn’t the only outperformer at the event. His entire team, whom he has the utmost faith in, went on to flourish just days before the international face-off!

Viktor Hovland sings praises for all his teammates, especially the youngster

Due to the participation of all 12 players on the European team, the BMW PGA Championship served as an excellent practice opportunity. Among the 12 members of the team, seven grabbed spots in the Top 10 list of the event. The team’s rookie from Europe, Ludvig Aberg, shot a remarkable 4-under 68 on Thursday’s first round, which featured six birdies on the back nine. Many people were impressed by his play, including Hovland.

After the first round of the BMW PGA Championship, Viktor Hovland mentioned the 23-year-old ans said,

“Yeah, it’s really cool to have all 12 guys in the field. Obviously got to play with Ludvig and Rory. That was great fun. Ludvig was certainly on a heater mid-round and the crowd was loving it.”
