Hovland winning the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship in the span of two weeks will certainly give the contingent a rousing boost. Although McIlroy was not in the best health during this week, he plans on returning to Rome completely healthy to give his team an edge over the American team.
After the Tour Championship, the Irish golfer sat with the media, where he was asked how much was he looking forward to the Ryder Cup. In response, McIlroy said, “Yeah, I think we’re all excited.” While answering, the golfer reminisced about a disappointing defeat at the 2021 Ryder Cup at the Whistling Straights and said that losing “didn’t feel good. So, yeah, I’m excited to get back over to Europe.”
Former world no. 1 seemed very confident with his team members and praised their recent games. He said, “We’re all, for the most part, playing really good.” It seems that American golfers will have a tough time competing with their European competitors, amidst their goodplay going on. McIlroy not only expressed confidence in his team members but also shared a glimpse of their game plan.

Reiterating the team aspect of the prestigious tournament, McIlroy revealed that European team members will “sort of making our way over to Europe a couple weeks early” to meet each other and have a nice get-together. They are planning to “get some early team dinners before the week in Rome.”
Complementing the team aspect and their bond with each other, the 4-time major champion said that he feels that team chemistry has already started between all of them.
