Max Homa is popular for being witty, and often his humor sense has earned him fresh waves of followers online. There are times, though, when this backfires. A recent tweet of his has become the victim of a joke-turned-controversy situation. And the 32-year-old has tweeted an explanation after deleting his original tweet.

The deleted tweet was in response to yet another accusation from Alan Shipnuck’s book that recently popped up on the web. Following the path of Justin Thomas, Max Homa also had a response that stood against the anonymous accusations fad. Let’s look at what the discussion is all about.

After the latest excerpt from Alan Shipnuck’s book accused Rory McIlroy of being “bought and paid for,” Justin Thomas had something to say on the matter. He had great contempt for anonymous accusations that had no evidence to back the claims made, and he boldly expressed it.

Max Homa also stood against the ongoing trend of spreading allegations, but he chose a different path to express himself. Well, different for the world, but usual for him. He made a joke about how “‘Unnamed sources’ is the same as ‘Ya I totally have a girlfriend. She attends a different school tho so u wouldn’t know her.’”

Since the post has been deleted now, we can’t understand what sort of comments forced Homa to delete the tweet. However, the page NUCLR GOLF shared a screenshot of the tweet, so it still lives online. Meanwhile, Max Homa didn’t just delete the post; he also explained why.

In his explanation, Max Homa wrote that what he intended as a joke didn’t land well, and so he is deleting the post. He claimed that he now understands how Twitter is a space for serious conversations. “This is a serious website used for serious statements ONLY. I forgot that and will repent.” He also requested that followers refrain from asking further questions.

While his tone can be seen as sarcastic, one cannot say for certain whether or not Homa meant what he wrote. The only claim that one can make is that Shipnuck’s book gives everyone in the golf world an edge!

Have the golf pros had enough of Alan Shipnuck?

Prior to this, Phil Mickelson was fodder for the golf world after allegations about him were quoted from Alan Shipnuck’s book. The discussion died down slowly in September, with the Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup events holding fans’ attention strongly.

However, since that dialogue has ended, or at least paused, a discussion on Rory McIlroy has sparked interest. The spark, however, didn’t have the space to spread into a fire, as Justin Thomas boldly intercepted it. JT expressed his disappointment at writers for spreading “ridiculous” negativity and baseless rumors that have no verifiable source. He stated that many Tour golfers were sick of this already.
