Rickie Fowler missing 2024—Will this be a career setback or a much-needed break?

He would have preferred a better track record in 2024. Yes, Rickie Fowler, once again failed to leave a mark, finishing a dismal T71 at Royal Troon. This makes it his 20th start this season without a victory. It now appears he will have to be content with just the 20 starts he made on the men’s circuit this year, all thanks to a personal commitment he can’t seem to get out of.

A tweet was shared by Rickie Fowler Tracker, a fan page for the golfer, revealing how the 2024 Open Championship “very well could’ve been the last event of the season,” per reports. The post also mentions that the news was heard from the athlete’s team, stating, “No official decision” has been made as to “whether he will play the Wyndham or not.” Moreover, the report also hinted slightly at the upcoming birth of his second baby, which is due very soon.

He also hinted at his plans for the season, expecting to play in the Open Championship and then wait for his child’s birth. This, coupled with the recent reports, has fueled the rumor mills. Rickie Fowler missing 2024—Will this be a career setback or a much-needed break?

Have an interesting take?

Out of the 20 starts Fowler made on the men’s circuit this year, he has missed the cut in six events, the last of which was at the Genesis Scottish Open. His best finish came at the RBC Heritage, where he carded a T18 placement, courtesy of the 9-under he managed to score.

If the new speculations are true, then Rickie Fowler will not be taking part in the Wyndham Championship, which will tee off on August 8 in Greensboro. Moreover, with the golfer being out of the top 70 in the FedEx Cup rankings, he wouldn’t be able to tee if off at the playoffs either, making the Open Championship his actual finale of the year. Regardless, his fans would wish the best for the golfer and his family.
