Staying with someone long enough allows you to know their strangest of habits. Joe LaCava and Tiger Woods’ long-lasting relationship also gave the former a thorough look inside Woods’ strange golf bag secrets. There is much to discover in a golfer’s bag, apart from their equipment, as LaCava’s experience with the 82-time PGA Tour winner would reveal.
Woods’s former caddie, however, found two things to be most uncommon (almost weird) in his former employer’s bag: his crunchy peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and his obsession with prioritizing a Milwaukee Sharpie against a regular Sharpie.
Describing his unusual experience, in an interview with Mr. T back in 2019, LaCava said, “I would say two things that people might not know: your crunchy peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and then the fact that you have to have a Milwaukee sharpie versus just a regular sharpie. I don’t know what the deal is there but you like those Milwaukee”. Woods was quick to admit his rather strange habit and coyly said, “I do. I do.”

This revelation by his longtime bagman and companion proves that at the end of the day, even the best golfers have an unusual thing or two in the depths of their bags. So if you one day find something odd, or have a little strange secret hushed and buried inside your golf bag, we will be sure not to judge. Jokes apart, is Tiger Woods the only professional golfer to have his caddy carry more than just pieces of equipment and essentials in his golf bag, or is it a more common phenomenon than what you may imagine?

Is Tiger Woods the only pro golfer to carry unusual things in his bag?
Tiger Woods is not alone in hiding his secret little joys in his golf bag. We assure you that the phenomenon is more common (and perhaps weirder) than imaginable by fans like us. For instance, American pro golfer Jeff Sluman prefers to carry dental glue in his bag, whereas Hunter Mahan likes his dental floss handy on the greens. But the list doesn’t end on usual dental necessities.
Pro golfers like the 46-year-old Cristie Kerr and the Canadian Mike Weir have even admitted to carrying antiques in their bags. Yes, you heard that right, antiques. While Kerr makes sure to keep her favorite antique coins from the 1960s along with her pieces of equipment, Weir chooses to carry a coin that’s his family heirloom passed down by his grandfather from Italy.

LPGA Tour star and golf commentator, Morgan Pressel, comes with her lip collection on the course and carries almost 10 lip glosses with her. Mark O’meara ensures she is forever ready to fix with his divot repair tool, and Victoria Lovelady never forgets to bring along a little cloth bag of sea salt to keep bad energy away, one of her Brazilian traditions.
Hence proved, golf bags are creatures of mystery. Don’t you think so? Let us know in the comments below.
