One wrong move can change the trajectory of one’s career. For this PGA Tour pro, only time will tell whether it is a curse or turns into a boon. Wesley Bryan no longer holds a full PGA Tour card and is currently ranked 179th in the 2025 FedExCup standings, with $5,247,630 in official earnings. His only mistake? He participated in The Duels,  LIV Golf’s content creator tournament. The event took place just hours before LIV Golf Miami 2025 and saw many golf content creators like Bryan, Grant Horvat, Rick Shiels, and more, with some professionals. The Columbia local was teamed with Dustin Johnson and finished 5th in a table of six teams.

For anyone who isn’t aware, the 35-year-old has also played in 134 PGA Tour events as a pro. In fact, Bryan had also won the 2017 RBC Heritage during his peak. Albeit only one title, he remained aligned with the PGA Tour, making his participation in the LIV Golf tournament a surprising twist. Even if Phil Mickelson doesn’t believe a contract has been breached. Now, Bryan himself has addressed the issue further after he initially reported the suspension.

Wesley Bryan posted a video with his brother George on their channel, Bryan Bros Golf. With the title ‘I Was Suspended From The PGA Tour,’ he made it abundantly clear what it would be about. Seated in a golf cart with George, Wesley Bryan said, “I have been suspended from the PGA Tour. It has been a difficult few weeks for us. It’s been an emotional roller coaster for everybody in this cart.” This got a nod from George as both brothers agreed that getting suspended from the PGA Tour was quite unsettling.

The pro turned content creator expressed his gratitude towards the PGA Tour for giving him the opportunities he received. Bryan also explained that he and his brother only participated in The Duels to help connect YouTube with professional golf. However, towards the end of the video, the suspended PGA Tour pro made a big revelation. Bryan added, “The Duels Miami, it was deemed an unauthorized event by the PGA Tour. I want to be clear, I do respect the authorities that are in place at the Tour. He pointed to the gray areas in the PGA Tour’s rulebook, arguing the regulations weren’t clear-cut. Confident in his stance, he made it clear: as a Tour member, he has the right to appeal – and he fully intends to use it. Wesley Bryan has confirmed it himself now that he will be involving the higher authorities for the punishment he has received for undefined rules.

For context, the PGA Tour website clearly states, “The PGA TOUR has determined that any player who engages in an Unauthorized Tournament is ineligible to compete in any event sanctioned by the PGA TOUR for a period of one year from the final round of competition of the Unauthorized Tournament in which he participated. Once any period of ineligibility has ended, a nonmember may participate in PGA TOUR events and any qualifying events such as PGA TOUR Q-School.” Laurie Canter, a founding LIV Golf member, left the league in early 2024. After serving a year-long suspension, he returned to compete at THE PLAYERS Championship 2025.

Interestingly, Bryan believes that the same rules don’t apply to him based on his recent association with LIV Golf. Let’s see why he thinks so.

Why can’t Jay Monahan & Co. impose the PGA Tour regulation on Wesley Bryan?

According to Wesley Bryan and many other insiders, the famed golf content creator did not participate in an unauthorized event. He believes that the rules don’t define his inclusion in the YouTube golf event, even if it was aligned with LIV Golf. He said, “I don’t feel like when the rule was written, it was meant to cover content creation on YouTube.” As a social video sharing platform, any content created primarily for and distributed through YouTube can’t be considered an unauthorized event.

To further elaborate on what this means, the South Carolina citizen added, “I feel like it (the Unauthorized Event regulation) was meant to cover organized professional high-level golf events. That being said, I plan on carrying out my right to appeal.” Wesley Bryan believes that this is a clear case of unclarified regulations, a loophole that can work in his favor as he looks to remove his suspension from the PGA Tour. As a former champion of the North American league, he will be appealing against the PGA Tour’s decision to suspend him.

Wesley Bryan made it clear that he has no regrets about participating in The Duels. He confidently stated, “That video is one of the most powerful videos in YouTube golf.” He emphasized his commitment to supporting Grant Horvat and growing the game through their YouTube platform, adding, “We’re going to continue to support Grant and keep pushing golf forward on YouTube.” His enthusiasm and determination to use digital media to expand the sport were evident in his words.
