The hype in the golf world is currently reaching its peak as the World Wide Technology Championship is underway in Mexico. Although many eyes are on the set of players who are duking it out on the greens for the $8.2 million prize purse, it’s Tiger Woods, who is currently on a break from the game, who has seen himself being dragged into the spotlight.

The golfer seemed to be pumped up for the contest even before its start, as he had been the one to construct the El Cardonal golf course. However, throwing cold water on his excitement was none other than the golf community as many took to the internet to take a dig at the layout, in a surprise of sorts!

Woods managed to add another silver feather to his architectural cap as the golfer, with TGR, his firm, managed to design the El Cardonal at Diamante Cabo. Moreover, this was his first layout that witnessed a PGA Tour event taking place, leading the golfer to be extremely excited for the same.

However, a post was shared on the official handle of the PGA Tour showcasing views from the golf course. The video showed snippets of the Mexican course from an aerial point of view, as the World Wide Technology Championship is taking place at the same.

The tweet was shared with the caption, “Tiger Woods’ course is a masterpiece,” by the circuit. However, the same opinion wasn’t shared by many in the golfing community as they came forward to take a jab at the 15X major winner’s accomplishment.

The course was initially not very well welcomed by many as even a professional on the PGA Tour circuit took to share his opinion on the same. Michael Kim wasn’t all praise as he went ahead to mention how the 47-year-old ended up making a course that fit his game. And, adding to his reality check, the new post raked in a frenzy of comments from the community.

Woods’ Mexican course shakes the golf world

Even the legend must not have thought that his course in Mexico would end up receiving such criticism from fans and players alike. There were comments ranging from how poor the layout is to outright taking a jab at the 82X PGA Tour winner under the post. Let’s take a quick look at some of them.

Kim was especially vocal on the design of the Mexican layout as he pointed out how the 15X major winner was “no different” from other golfer-turned-designers. The architect had made the same while boasting big fairways that would fit his gameplay. And an enthusiast did point out the same.

A lot of followers criticized the same after witnessing a shot by Thomas Detry, who is currently at T60. It went ahead to roll back from the greens into the roughs despite the professional hitting it close to the pin. The video led to many commenting on the “poor design” of the course.

Some were very reluctant to admit this was something that Mr. T himself made. They did go on to make a hilarious, albeit sarcastic jab at the golfer and his design firm as he mentioned how a kid could have made the same.

Kim had earlier pointed out in his post how the layout boasts little to no roughs. The video uploaded by PGA Tour also showcases the same as another follower, this time around, commented on how there are no water holes all the while indicating how they couldn’t see the mastery in this despite being a fan of the professional.

The unfortunate shot by Detry invoked another response on the course. And, this time, it was a direct poke at the design made by the legend of the game, owing to which the golfer’s ball rolled back into the roughs.
