It’s been two weeks since we learned the heartbreaking news of Tiger Woods’s mother, Kultida, passing away. We can’t even begin to imagine the pain he’s going through. Woods has often spoken about how much his mother meant to him—she was his biggest supporter through every high and low. And now, the PGA Tour is making sure to honor the woman who raised one of golf’s greatest legends.
The Genesis Invitational recently paid a heartfelt tribute to Tiger Woods’s late mother, Kultida Woods, this week. As TWLEGION shared on X, the 7th hole at Torrey Pines will feature a white pin flag—a meaningful symbol in Buddhist culture—to honor her memory. Torrey Pines holds a special place in his career—he’s won multiple times here, including his iconic 2008 U.S. Open victory. And with this gesture, the tournament is making sure Kultida’s influence is felt on the course once again. This gesture comes just days after Woods’s tech-driven league, TGL, also honored his late mother.
TGL and its parent company, TMRW Sports, made sure to recognize her impact before the Boston Common Golf vs. Los Angeles Golf Club match. ESPN’s Matt Barrie described the scene at SoFi Stadium, calling Kultida a “towering figure” in Woods’ life. The entire stadium also witnessed a moment of silence to honor her passing. TGL was also the site of Woods’s last on-course memory with his mother. During Match 4, he spotted her on the sideline and playfully said, “Hi Mom, not gonna s*ck tonight.“ True to his word, his team, Jupiter Links GC, won that night. Who could’ve known that would be their last moment together on the course?

Since the news of Tida’s broke, everyone from the golf world came together to share their condolence. Fellow legend Gary Player shared, “My condolences go out to Tiger and his family. One of the many things I’ve always admired about Tiger is that he always honored his mother and father, and I know he will continue to do so. GP.” Meanwhile Rory McIlroy, co-founder at the TGL, also reflected on Kultida’s passing.
“Yeah, obviously very sad, sort of surreal. She was here last Monday night. Yeah, it seemed sudden. I got to know Tida a little bit. She was always very warm, very courteous, and generous with her time. Yeah, it was always a delight to see her at tournaments,” he said.
Golf journalist Claire Rogers shared her tribute on X, recalling a sweet moment from just days before Kultida’s passing: “Thought it was the sweetest thing when Tiger’s mom, Kultida, wore a sweater like this to TGL last week. Rest in peace to Tiger’s No. 1 fan ❤️.” Even US President Donald Trump who has a long-standing friendship with Woods, publicly offered his condolences.
He wrote, “I was just informed that Tiger Woods’ wonderful Mother, Kultida, passed away — She has gone onto greener fairways! Kultida Woods was an amazing influence on Tiger, and gave him much of his strength and brilliance. Melania and I send our love and prayers to Tiger and his incredible family!”

For Woods, this has undoubtedly been a tough time. He had planned to make his much-anticipated comeback at the Genesis Invitational but ultimately withdrew at the last moment—and understandably so. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss,” he shared. Right now, he’s dealing with an unimaginable loss, and if that means taking some time away from the game, so be it. When he’s ready to tee it up again, the golf world will be there waiting.

When can we expect Tiger Woods to return to the greens?
His schedule remains uncertain, but a few key tournaments are coming up that could be options. The Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches—formerly the Honda Classic—is one possibility, though it would be a surprise addition since Woods hasn’t played at PGA National since 2018. A more likely stop? The Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he’s an eight-time winner, or The Players Championship, which he’s won twice.
Of course, the biggest question is whether he’ll compete before The Masters. While he could make Augusta his season debut, history suggests he’d prefer to get some reps in beforehand. With five Green Jackets to his name, he knows better than anyone what it takes to contend at Augusta, and he’ll want to be as sharp as possible.

That said, taking time away from competitive golf makes perfect sense given what he’s going through. But that doesn’t mean he’s completely stepping away from the game. Recently, he was spotted playing a casual Sunday round with Donald Trump and his son, Charlie, at Trump International Golf Club in Florida. Trump later commented on Woods’s emotional state, saying, “He’s very sad over his mother’s passing. He’s a great guy.”
Their meeting did raise a few eyebrows, given the ongoing LIV-PGA Tour merger discussions, but right now, the main focus is on Woods himself. His fans know one thing for sure—whenever he does return, it’ll be a moment worth watching.
