Lucas Glover won the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship. But what turned many heads back then wasn’t the scintillating finish he sculpted in Memphis but the backside he sported, courtesy of the TPC Southwind heat. And Paige Spiranac back then had pointed out the same while highlighting the need to wear shorts. Fast forward a year into 2024, and it seems the golf queen might have to address the matter once again. Re-enter her “swamp a**” comments!
The first two rounds witnessed the golfers duke it out in extreme conditions. Although the forecasted temperatures for the two days were set at 97 degrees on Thursday and 96 degrees on Friday, the heat index was set to be much higher. “Hot and humid conditions return Thursday into Friday with the humidity making it feel like 105+ each of these days,” divulged the official PGA Tour report.
That’s not all. The possibility of thunderstorms owing to high humidity on Saturday morning has pushed round 3 to start at 9:45–11:45 a.m. CT. The golfers will be teeing it off in groups of three off of the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Meanwhile, the temperatures will feel as high as 112F, and coupled with the high humidity, the athletes will probably see a replication of what happened to Lucas Glover this year as well.

Back in 2023, the 44-year-old PGA Tour Pro, during the FedEx St. Jude Championship, was spotted wearing sweat-stained pants during the final round of Sunday. Although later on, the golfer would card a 1-under 69 and beat Patrick Cantlay in the playoffs to win the event, his sweaty pants would forever be a moment etched in the minds of many.

And one of these people was none other than Paige Spiranac, who went ahead to discuss the heat on the course. “Lucas Glover won for the second week in a row at a hot and humid Memphis,” said the female athlete, “He also won for the worst documented case of swamp a** that we have ever seen.“ But she didn’t stop there, for the golf queen went ahead to take a jab at the Jay Monahan-led PGA Tour, all the while taking Lucas Glover’s case into account.
Paige Spiranac expresses her views on PGA Tour Pros wearing shorts
“The men on the PGA Tour should absolutely be able to wear shorts and the rule needs to change right now,” explained a worried Paige Spiranac. She also added how the PGA Tour should allow them a change in their attire before pointing out how golfers, including Glover, stuck their hands in ice, “The guys were absolutely dying, they were sticking their hands in the ice coolers to bring their body temperature down.“

Paige Spiranac also took to issue a jab at the idea of ‘tradition’ which forces these golfers to wear pants. “I know a couple of you are saying out there ‘it’s tradition’ and ‘they want to look like professionals’,” argued the social media influencer. “But you are saying that in your air conditioning while on your nice cool couch drinking an ice cold beer… But these guys are athletes playing in extreme conditions. Let them wear shorts!“
Has Paige Spiranac’s push borne any fruit? Well, that is but a question that can only be answered in the future. Regardless, the fans will surely hope the golfers can take care of themselves despite the hot and humid conditions that Memphis is sporting right about now!
