It’s been almost 11 months since the merger between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour was announced. Now, come 2024, there still seems to be a lot of work left in making that dream a reality, even after the recent meetup between Player Directors and the PIF governor. Regardless, many in the community can’t help but express their hope for a united front. Interestingly, Paige Spiranac was of the same opinion, and recent reports about the Masters can’t seem to help but agree with the diva.

The 30-year-old uploaded a tweet on her X handle (previously Twitter) hours ago. Meanwhile, as she did so, Spiranac made sure to comment on how the game of golf is better when all the top golfers come together, alluding to the ongoing major championship and the effect it had on the sport; “All I know is that golf is better when the best players in the world are playing together.”

Interestingly, what Paige Spiranac said is not without any reason. Just recently, the ratings for the ongoing major championship at Augusta were released by ESPN. As per the reports, the telecast on Thursday averaged a whopping 3.2 million viewers, which is considerably more than what 2023 brought in, at 2.5 million.

Much to the surprise of many, it is, reportedly, the biggest number that the Masters has raked in for the first round since 2015. What’s more, it happened when the two groups of players, the PGA Tour pros and the LIV golfers, came together to meet each other on the field. Thus, it seems a lot of fans in the community, including Paige Spiranac, can’t help but wonder if such a situation, portraying a united front, is better for the sport as a whole. It is, as James Colgan, a golf writer, said, “Not a cure-all for the issues facing pro golf on TV at the moment. But an encouraging sign.”

Regardless of the same, there has been no news from Jay Monahan regarding the framework agreement since the one he made after the meeting that took place at Albany Golf Course a while back. Curiously, the commissioner of the PGA Tour had sent a statement back then to the members of the men’s circuit.

Monahan’s current stance and silence hint at merger delay

The Tiger Woods-led Player Directors met with Yasir Al-Rumayyan following which Monahan issued a statement. It mentioned how the group had a “constructive” talk with the PIF governor, all the while dubbing it as part of the “‘due diligence process’ for its selection process for PGA TOUR enterprises investors.” Moreover, he also added that “No further comments will be made publicly” until the negotiations come to an end, hinting at how further details of the same wouldn’t be made public.

Thus, despite all the efforts that Monahan has put in since the merger was announced, it appears the community still needs to wait a while to witness a favorable outcome. Moreover, a lot of people, including the likes of Paige Spiranac, seem to hold hope for a better future for golf as a whole. But notwithstanding such sentiments, many are still doubtful of the merger actually taking place, despite all the recent developments. Truly an inconclusive situation at the moment.
