The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, one of the highly anticipated events on the PGA Tour, begins on February 2; therefore, the field list is out. However, fans did not look happy with the names.
The tournament field will feature Viktor Hovland and Matt Fitzpatrick. We will see Jordan Spieth return to the location of his perilous cliff shot the following week. Only these three are golfers in the top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking. The top-ranked player in the field is No. 10 Fitzpatrick, followed by Nos. 11 Hovland and 15 Spieth.
In total, the field will consist of 156 pros and 156 amateurs. They will be paired together to make up the starting field. The 156 two-person teams compete in the better-ball format over the first three days. They will be playing one round on each of the three courses: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore Course. However, the professionals will compete in the more traditional individual stroke-play format.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is known to be one of the most fun events on the PGA Tour. Top players share the golf course with celebrities. This season, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, country singer Jake Owen, and fantastic actor Bill Murray will tee up on Thursday. But are fans counting it as a fun event?
Are fans on board with the PGA Tour Pro-Am field list?
Golf writer Jason Sobel tweeted his views on the field list. He said, “Field list out for next week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and, ohhh boy, big one for the anti-designated event and/or pro-Saudi International crowd.” The breakdown explanation of the OWGR then followed the tweet. “Here’s the breakdown by OWGR: Top-10: 0 Top-20: 2 (Hovland, Spieth) Top-50: 5 (Hovland, Spieth, Hoge, Power, Kitayama) Top-100: 21.”
American business and music executive Nathan Hubbard also shared his views. According to him, the tournament will be “on death watch.”

Along with previous tournament champions Ted Potter Jr., and Nick Taylor, Tom Hoge, the defending champion, is scheduled to compete. If Hoge performs as well as he did a few weeks ago at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, where he ended T-3, he has a good chance of repeating a champion. He and Sahith Theegala both triumphed at the 2022 QBE Shootout.
Yikes. This tournament field is Jordan Spieth, Hovland, and not much else. When Sungjae Im skips your event, it’s in trouble. The legendary AT&T Pebble Beach is officially on death watch 😕

Even though the names did not send many thrills to the fans, they are still planning to watch the tournament. The golf world could not understand why the top professional golfers were missing the game.

The pebble beach pro-am for years has been plagued by top golfer no shows. Many players not fond of pro-am format.

Great to see the PGA’s grand “we’re committed to making things better” announcement is going great, and a cathedral of US golf suffers.
Also, great optics about the “dirty Saudi money” LIV uses. Good for me, not for thee.

Spieth kind of has to play doesn't he – I mean, just look at his bag!

Ditch the pro am and make it an occasional elevated event. Job done

Fans don’t approve of the current field list of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am since there are not enough OWGR high-ranking players taking part in the event. However, players like Webb Simpson, Kevin Kisner, Justin Rose, Joel Dahmen, and Scott Stallings will play in the tournament and make it more competitive.
