A LIV Golf professional golfer Dean Burmester expressed discontent with the PGA Tour, asserting it lacks guaranteed success. He confirmed a move to Liv Golf in February 2023 just months after he got a PGA Tour card. The golfer, defending his transition, criticized PGA Tour leadership, including PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, and suggested uncertainties in the traditional golf setup.
The South African pro golfer highlighted the appeal of LIV Golf and emphasized the potential for creating generational “wealth” as a motivated factor behind his move. The comments shed light on the golfer’s perspective, framing the shift as a strategic decision influenced by financial considerations and dissatisfaction with the conventional PGA Tour structure.

In a recent episode of the podcast “Fairway to Heaven,” the professional golfer candidly discussed his settling to join LIV Golf and reflected on the financial challenges he faced while competing on the “PGA Tour”. Burmester expressed his rationale for choosing “LIV” and emphasized the “statistical” uncertainties and lack of financial security he experienced in the PGA Tour.
The 34-year-old also highlighted the stark reality that despite delivering exceptional performances and winning tournaments on the PGA Tour, financial stability was “not a guaranteed road”. He weighed the “odds” of winning a PGA Tour event against the potential to create “generational wealth for” his “family” and ensured a comfortable future for his “kids” through LIV Golf.
The golfer acknowledged that while success on the PGA Tour was possible, it presented a less certain path compared to the perceived “more security” offered by LIV Golf. His decision to join LIV Golf was rooted in the desire for a more assured financial future, allowing him to provide for his family and offer his children opportunities such as “study or whatever university” without the uncertainties he faced in the traditional PGA Tour setup.
However, at 5 ft 11 in, Burmester delivered an impressive performance at LIV Golf Orlando in 2023, securing a tied-third position with a score of -12 and earning a noteworthy prize money of $1,275,000. His skillful play and solid performance contributed to his success in the tournament, highlighting his competitive edge in the LIV Golf circuit.
