The fourth event on the 2024 PGA Tour, the Farmers Insurance Open, started on 24th January 2023.  Many big names are missing from the field this year, with the most shocking one being the long-time attendee, Rickie Fowler. The 35-year-old used to be the poster boy for Farmers Insurance, but recently parted ways with the sponsor since he didn’t want to be a “billboard” anymore. But, he has confirmed his next event and affirmed his presence at the Cognizant Classic, which is to be played from February 26–March 3 at the PGA National Resort’s Champion Course.

The tournament hasn’t had any official entrants yet, but Fowler changed that by becoming the first player to commit to playing. Hope is for more top pros to join him. Cognizant’s executive director Joie Chitwood said, “We are thrilled to welcome our 2017 champion Rickie Fowler to this year’s Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.”

The six-time PGA TOUR winner will be making his 14th career start at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Joie further added, “As one of the most exciting players on the PGA Tour, he is a tremendous addition to our field and is sure to generate a plethora of excitement for our partners and fans during tournament week.”

After parting ways with long-time sponsor Farmers Insurance, Fowler opted out of its tournament. With this move, the 35-year-old ended his 10-year stint at the event, where his appearance was normal. He signed for Farmers Insurance for the first time in 2013, which was renewed several times later.

However, everyone was surprised after Rickie did not wear any logo from them at the Sentry. Fowler later revealed that there had been a leadership change at the top and they were not looking to extend the contract with him. Amid this news, his acceptance to appear at the Cognizant Classic, in Palm Beach County was surely good news for the fans!

Fowler skipped last year’s event after making 13 consecutive starts. And compared to Farmers Insurance Open, he has a better track record for the Cognizant Classic. The American golfer has had little success in the Farmers Insurance Open. His best performance came in 2010 with a T5 finish.

However, Fowler won the Cognizant Classic in 2017. He had a four-shot victory over Gary Woodland and Morgan Hoffmann. In 2019, he again came close to winning but finished tied for second, one shot behind Keith Mitchell.

It looks like the 35-year-old would want to repeat his past performance at the 2024 Cognizant Classic. Rickie Fowler would be looking for a win after the recent split with Farmers Insurance and disappointing performances at The Sentry and AmEx this year. The pro finished at T56 in the season’s curtain raiser and failed to make the cut at AmEx.
