The 2024 Sentry was able to crown the true winners! Winners, you say? Well, it’s true that Chris Kirk managed to bag the victory after a hard-fought battle against a star-studded field. But Patrick Cantlay was also able to captivate the hearts of many by extending his hand for a moral cause. However, it seems there is yet another addition to the list of champs—none other than Collin Morikawa.
The 2X major champion could only finish at T5 following a commendable performance, putting up a 25-under, 267 on the board. However, despite losing out on the win, the golfer turned out to be nothing short of a true hero following the tourney, all the while taking a page out of Cantlay’s book!

A story was uploaded on the American’s Instagram handle as he shared a tweet from Adidas. The post reveals how Morikawa “pledged to donate” a sum of “$2000 for every birdie,” followed by “$4000 for every eagle” that was scored by the professional. Moreover, the amount would be contributed to the Hawaii Community Foundation and the Hua Momona Farms.
Although the 2021 Open Championship winner only finished fifth, he managed to score a total of 24 birdies and an eagle while doing so. This takes the amount up to $52,000. Well, if the clothing company is to pitch in as well, that’s a whopping $104,000 that was raised, amounting to nearly 20% of his earnings from the tourney, a cut of $690,500 from the prize pool.
Why would the clothing company double the money? The tweet also revealed that Adidas would be “matching every dollar” that the golfer raised. They would do so in a bid to provide “meals and support” to the people who were affected by the wildfires in Maui back in 2023.

It truly puts a smile on the fans’ faces when their favorite golfers take a moment to think of the community as well. Well, it seems one can’t help but mention Cantlay, who was the first among the field of the Sentry to extend a helping hand.

The initiatives aimed to raise funds for the emergency workers’s families through a fundraising campaign, along with providing a Patrick Cantlay Scholarship to the children who aspire to be entrepreneurs. The grant for the kids would start in 2024 and would provide support for a total of four years. The golf pro surely did set a great example for many, including Morikawa, to follow. Take a bow, you two!
