Jay Monahan and Co. must be on cloud nine! They recently secured a $3 billion investment from SSG. Now many PGA Tour players believe this investment is more than enough to get the league out of muddy waters. But if the words of Billy Horschel are to be believed, there is still some room for improvement!
He based his suggestions for improvement in the Tour on the last two PGAT events: the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the WM Phoenix Open. While competing in both of them, the American golfer came up with a word of advice for the Tour. But his suggestions for improvement can cause a debate in the traditional league!
The 37-year-old recently sat down for a podcast with No Laying Up Golf. He shared his views on the PGA Tour-SSG deal, differing opinions on the road back for LIV Golf players, and much more. However, his take on how to improve the entertainment value of PGA Tour events was one of the hot takes.

“I do believe, you know, that John Henry, Steve Cohen, and Arthur Blank—the people that they have that come out to a Tour—will explain to the PGA Tour the way things work in other sports,” he said. Horschel further stressed the point that one player, who can bring in a lot of fans to an event, should be made to play instead of sitting out on one’s own accord. But how would doing things differently help the American Tour? What is the actual lesson here?
What good could Billy Horschel’s ‘different’ advice do?
Comparing it to other sports like the NFL, MLB, or NBA, he said it increases the value for everyone taking part. Many leagues do what the American golfer is suggesting to bring in more fans. For example, Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi was made to play in the 84th minute of a soccer match just because it was promised in his contract.

He further urged the Tour to do such things to ultimately increase profits for everyone, players and authorities alike. However, the American golfer was also ready for the backlash he would get for suggesting this.
“Listen, it’s going to be completely different. Some guys aren’t going to be open to it, and some guys will,” he said. However, he was confident that, at the end of the day, this move would be for the greater good of the Tour.
