Will Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL ever overcome its hurdles, or is it doomed to fail?

Remember November 2023? Well, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy sure wouldn’t. That was when their precious brainchild, the TGL, was delayed. The reason? The SoFi Center was damaged, pushing the league’s launch to 2025. Fast forward to the present, and concerns for the golfers’ innovative league seem to have resurfaced. This time, it’s due to a lack of updates.

The last update on the 48-year-old’s virtual arena came back in August, as per The Palm Beach Post. According to reports, the first match of TGL is scheduled to tee off on January 7, 2025, at the SoFi Center, which can now seat 1,500 people. However, no updates have been released since, even after recent hurricanes in Florida, where the center is located.

That’s not all. The weather forecast for the week, according to The Weather Channel, also paints a bleak picture for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new league. The report predicted tropical storm conditions for the night of Wednesday, October 9, with a chance of thunderstorms as well. Furthermore, the forecast for the next day shows a slight chance of rain, with winds expected to reach speeds of 25-35 mph.

Additionally, the National Weather Service issued a tropical storm warning for Coastal Palm Beach County as a result of the dangerous weather conditions. Consequently, the notice warned people staying in locations including West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Juno Beach, and Jupiter about the same.

The warning also asked residents to be wary of the threat to life and property that might arise due to the tropical storm. Moreover, the prediction of winds blowing at a speed of 39 to 57 mph didn’t help. Couple this with what Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s SoFi Center went through back in November, and you don’t get much of a satisfactory picture.

What happened to Tiger Woods’ SoFi center back in 2023?

The postponement of the 48-year-old’s brainchild was triggered by none other than the SoFi Center’s dome getting deflated. How did it happen? Well, the temporary power systems that were used during construction failed, which, in turn, led to substantial damage to the center. “An overnight failure to the temporary power system used during the construction phase caused partial deflation and limited damage to the air-supported dome section of the site,” said the official statement issued by TGL.

“The dome section has been further deflated by our crew,” wrote the official handle of TGL. “And will remain down while they work to remedy the situation. There were no injuries, and no technology was impacted. Other work on site will continue.” The work seems to have gone pretty well, seeing as how the match is set to kick off in January 2025. However, one can’t help but worry for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, owing to the recent dangerous weather that has hit Florida, causing widespread damage. Fingers crossed!
