The Ryder Cup is one of the most prestigious and reputed tournaments that golfers look forward to towards the end of the season. It is a highly coveted title where European and American golfers compete against each other in 12-member teams. Towards the end of the season, during the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the golfers who have not been able to qualify via rankings, fight fiercely to secure their rank in their respective teams.

Out of the 12 members of a team, the top 6 are picked from the Ryder Cup points table, and the other 6, are chosen by the team’s captain. The 2023 Ryder Cup is being organized in Rome, Italy. And the golfer who’s not quite fond of the venue, just made it to the European team, and joins his fellow golfers Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

Just last year, Viktor Hovland had said that he was not fond of the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club where the 44th edition of the Ryder Cup will be organized. The Norwegian golfer in December 2022, spoke about how he finds the venue disappointing and is not a fan of the design of the track.

He described the venue as a difficult one, as it is built up and down a large mountain. Hovland made his Ryder Cup debut in 2021 and played all five sessions that year. He ended up losing in three rounds and claimed half in the remaining two rounds. He was the first Norwegian player to compete in the Ryder Cup.

After two years of his debut, if reports are to be believed, the 25-year-old has fixated on his position in the European team. Nosferatu, a popular Twitter page, related to golf points and rankings, posted that owing to his position in the World Points list, the 4X PGA Tour winner will now be seen competing in Rome.

With the third position on the World Points list and 271.45 points to his name, it is now impossible to knock out Hovland from the European team.
