Is Jordan Spieth's career in a downward spiral, or can he bounce back to win another major?

A missed cut at the Masters, a T43 at the PGA Championship, and a T41 at the U.S. Open—Jordan Spieth hasn’t been having the best year, especially in major championships. However, the community seems to find comic relief in his situation, as many took to mocking the golfer on the internet.

A post was shared on Reddit by a user named alkydeamel, featuring a screenshot of various Wi-Fi networks found in one’s phone. He posted the screenshot with the caption, “Found this available Wi-Fi network….what do you think the password could be?” The highlighted network was named, “Jordan Spieth Will Win Major-5G.”

The golfer’s last major victory came in 2017 when he won the Open Championship, beating Matt Kuchar by three strokes. However, his most recent win on the circuit occurred when he defeated Patrick Cantlay in a playoff at the 2022 RBC Heritage. Since then, he has struggled to secure another trophy. Coupled with the Reddit post, fans have been taking jabs at the athlete!

Netizens predict a ‘Missed Cut’ for Jordan Spieth at the Open

Spieth has participated in the Open Championship ten times, achieving top-10 finishes on five occasions, including a victory at Royal Birkdale in 2017 and a T2 finish at Royal St. George’s in 2021. Remarkably, he has never missed a cut at this major. However, his 11th attempt was seen as a disappointment by fans, with one commenting, “Missed Cut,” while another predicted, “Collapse imminent!”

Jordan Spieth has won a total of three majors: the 2015 Masters, the 2015 U.S. Open, and the 2017 Open Championship. He needs a PGA Championship victory to complete his Career Grand Slam, a feat achieved by only five other players. Unfortunately, he has fallen short seven times, coming closest in 2019 with a T3 finish at Bethpage. A fan, alluding to the same, responded, “StuckIn2017! Gotta add the exclamation point”

Renowned swing instructor Hank Haney once observed Spieth struggling with the yips, attributing this to the decline in the PGA Tour pro’s performance. “When I watch him putt, he visibly has the yips,” said Haney, “You watch his hands on short putts and there is a tremor in there.” This has made Spieth visibly nervous, leading him to converse with his caddie for reassurance. The Reddit users weren’t too fond of that as they dished out comments such as, “Stop babbling at your caddie and hit the fucking ball,” and “Not gonna lie. The yips he has are as bad as Brian Harmon sometimes. Just hit the damn ball dude.”

Despite the criticism, Spieth undoubtedly hopes to end his two-year win drought with a victory at Royal Troon, a wish shared by his loyal fans. Whether he can achieve this remains uncertain, a question his followers eagerly await the answer to!
