Meredith's confession about Scottie—Does humor play a big role in a successful marriage?

He’s 28-years-old. He’s the No. 1 golfer in the world. He has 7 wins to his name in the 2024 PGA Tour season. But none of this would have been possible if not for the love and support that Scottie Scheffler’s wife, Meredith Scheffler, had shown him. And now, an old video of the couple has resurfaced showcasing the golfer’s wife making a candid, yet hilarious confession about the time when she met the 2X major champ.

Although the athlete had married his wife only in 2020, they had been in a relationship years before that. The two met when they were studying at the Highland Park High School, following which they remained friends for three years before getting into a relationship. Recounting the day of their meeting, Meredith said in an interview with Golf Digest back in 2022, “He was a lot more shy when we first met,” to which Scheffler comically replied, “I was intimidated.”

The athlete’s wife didn’t stop there. She comically added how even though he seemed shy at first sight, the current Scottie Scheffler was a very different person. “Now I’m like, he’s the weirdest person I know,” confessed Meredith as she recalled their high school days. “I didn’t know him well at all,” added the pro’s partner, “But I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously.”

Meredith also took to double down on the humility that Scottie Scheffler, as a person and an athlete, possessed. She said, “Even when he had amazing accomplishments, that wasn’t the most important thing about him. That was probably my first reaction of him.” And what was the 2-time major champ’s reaction? Well, he gave his nod of approval as the snippet of the interview ended.

Now, years after they first met back in high school, the two are happily married with a baby boy, Bennett in their arms. Although they were forced into a long-distance kind of situation back when they studied in their respective universities, the duo managed to hold strong and support each other. And now, he is $71,793,586 richer for it.

Moreover, out of the 130 events he teed off in, the athlete boasts a total of 44 top-5 finishes, and 59 top-10 finishes, while making the cut in 111 of the same.

Have an interesting take?

Even though he did turn pro back in 2018, Scheffler could only join the Tour a couple of years later in 2020, and thus, he had raked in such feats in such a small amount of time. Interestingly, his performance this season has helped him equal the records of legend Tiger Woods, and Tom Watson in achieving 7 wins, both of whom did it back in 2007 and 1970, respectively. His fans would surely want him to keep on winning and enjoy the same alongside his family, including Meredith and the newborn baby Bennett!
